A Prayer for Divine Wisdom and Discernment in Relationships
"Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son." - Deuteronomy 7:3

O Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts that seek Your guidance and wisdom, knowing that Your ways are higher than our ways, and Your thoughts higher than our thoughts. In the book of Deuteronomy, You have instructed us, saying, "Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son" (Deuteronomy 7:3, KJV). Lord, we acknowledge that this command was given in a time when Your people were called to remain distinct, holy, and committed to You alone.
As we live in a world filled with distractions and temptations, we earnestly pray for the discernment to understand the meaning of this command in our own lives. Teach us, O Lord, how to cherish the sanctity of our relationships and remain faithful to the covenant we have with You. We recognize that marrying outside of our faith can lead us away from the core values You desire us to cultivate. Help us to find partners who will uplift our spirits, support our faith, and walk alongside us in our journey to serve You.
Lord, we seek Your assistance in the proper selection of companions. May our hearts delight in pursuing relationships that honor You and uphold Your sovereign design for marriage. Provide us with the wisdom to recognize that not every relationship is meant to flourish and not every attraction is aligned with Your will. Allow us to be vigilant and steadfast in our commitment to following Your truths, ensuring that we make choices that reflect our love for You.
Father, we lift up our children to You, knowing the world can be a challenging environment. As they grow, may they find joy in their youth while being anchored in Your teachings. Instill in them discernment and righteousness so they will understand the importance of marrying within their faith. May they recognize that the most important relationship in their lives is that with You; this understanding will guide their decisions in their personal lives.
We also pray for those who may already be in relationships that don’t align with Your call. We ask for Your grace to cover them as they navigate these complex situations. Grant them peace and clarity to either amend these relationships according to Your will or lead them toward healing and closure. Let every heavy heart know Your comfort and love as they seek to walk in Your paths.
Lord, help us to be bold in our faith, so when we face external pressures to conform and compromise, we can stand firm in our beliefs. Let us be examples to those around us, showing the profound joy and fulfillment that come from abiding in Your word. Equip us to communicate the importance of Your guidance to others, being a source of light in a world that often misleads.
As we reflect on this command, remind us continually of the bigger picture of Your plan for relationships within our lives. Help us to focus on building a strong, Christ-centered foundation in every interaction we engage in, knowing that marital bonds are sacred covenant relationships that reflect Your unbreakable promises to us.
In everything, let Your will be done. May we always seek You first, trusting that when we commit our plans to You, our paths will be made straight. Thank You for hearing our prayer, and thank You for Your steadfast love and guidance. We ask all of this in the precious name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
