A Prayer for Unity and Reconciliation in Christ
"Therefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father." - Ephesians 2:11-18

O Great and Eternal God,
As we gather in Your holy presence, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the profound truth revealed to us in Your Word, particularly in Ephesians 2:11-18. We come humbly before You, seeking a deeper understanding of the significance of our identity in Christ and the unifying power of His sacrifice. Lord, we desire to remember, as Your Word instructs us, that at one time we were separated from You, existing in a state of alienation and despair.
We reflect on verse 11, which invites us to remember that we were once Gentiles in the flesh, labeled as the Uncircumcision. Help us never to forget the state from which we have been redeemed. We acknowledge, O Lord, that prior to knowing You, we were without hope and without God in the world. Our hearts were heavy with the burdens of sin, lost in darkness, yearning for the light that only You can provide.
Thank You, Father, that through Jesus Christ, we who were once far off have been brought near by His precious blood. We marvel at Your grace, which has washed away our past and transformed our present. May our lives reflect the gratitude we hold for this divine intervention. Enable us to embrace our new identity in Christ, for He is our peace, the One who has made us one with You and with one another.
As Your Word reveals, You have broken down the middle wall of partition that once separated us. Lord, we pray for the spirit of unity in Your Church, that we might live as one body—no longer defined by our differences but united in the love of Christ. Stir in our hearts a fervent desire to demolish every barrier that divides us: barriers of race, ethnicity, culture, and social status. Help us to see one another through Your eyes and to embrace our brothers and sisters, knowing that each one is a precious creation made in Your image.
Lord, in reconciling us to Yourself, You have also called us to be ambassadors of reconciliation. This is a holy charge that we often struggle to fulfill. Oh, how we need Your strength and wisdom! May we be vessels of peace in a world that is rife with division and strife. Teach us to listen with compassion and to speak with love, fostering understanding between those who are near and those who feel distant.
Let us remember the incredible beauty of You, who preached peace to those who were far off and to those who were near. May we, too, be heralds of Your peace, sharing the Good News that reconciles hearts to You and to one another. Empower us, O God, through Your Spirit, that we might lead others into a relationship with Your Son, inviting them to partake in the unity and fellowship that is available to all.
As we conclude this prayer, we cherish the access we have to You through the Holy Spirit. We have been granted an audience with the King of Kings! Let us never take this gift for granted. May our lives be a testament to Your redemption, and may we be quick to share the hope we have found in Christ with those still seeking.
In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 2:11-18 - "Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (which is done in the body by human hands)— remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit."
