A Prayer for Purity and Righteous Living
"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." - Ephesians 5:3-6

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, acknowledging Your holiness and greatness. We thank You for the gift of life and the opportunity to seek Your presence through prayer and worship. As we reflect on Ephesians 5:3-6, we are reminded of the high calling placed upon us as Your children, as saints called to reflect Your light in this world. Your Word says, “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.” Lord, we humbly ask for the strength to live according to this command, for we recognize that our flesh often desires what is contrary to Your will.
Father, forgive us for the times we have fallen short of Your glory. Help us to turn away from fornication and all forms of uncleanness that may have crept into our lives, whether in our thoughts, actions, or attitudes. Purify our hearts, Lord, and give us a desire to be united with You in holiness. We acknowledge that You have called us to be a people set apart, different from the chaos of this world, and we pray that You would instill in us a deep sense of urgency to live in a manner that reflects our faith.
May we not allow covetousness to take root within us. Help us to guard against greed and entitlement, remembering that everything we have is a gift from You. Teach us to be content in all circumstances and bless us with a spirit of gratitude. Let our focus shift from the worldly desires that so easily entangle us to the eternal treasures found in serving You and others.
Lord, we also seek Your guidance in our speech. Your Word warns us: “Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.” Help us to speak words that edify and encourage those around us. Guard our mouths from foolish talk and jokes that do not honor You. May our conversations be filled with grace, and let us always find opportunities to give You thanks, sharing the goodness of Your mercies with others.
We are reminded, Father, that “for this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” May we take this warning to heart, aware of the consequences of our choices. Let us not fall prey to deception, for Your Word cautions us, “Let no man deceive you with vain words.” We pray for discernment to recognize false teachings and empty promises that lead us away from righteousness. Strengthen our resolve to stand firm in our faith amidst a culture that often celebrates the very sins You abhor.
O Holy Spirit, guide us as we seek to live out these truths. Empower us to resist temptation and to walk in obedience to Your commands. Help us to model the character of Christ in every aspect of our lives. As we strive for purity, may we also extend grace and love to those still caught in the chains of sin, demonstrating the transformative power of Your love.
In all things, we give You thanks for the grace that covers our imperfections and for the hope of redemption through Jesus Christ. As we reflect on the seriousness of our actions and the weight of our words, help us to remember that we are Yours and that our inheritance lies in Your kingdom. Fill our hearts with a longing for holiness as we endeavor to reflect Your light in this dark world.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Ephesians 5:3-6 - "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient."
