A Prayer for Divine Justice and Protection
“Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.” — Esther 7:8
Oh Sovereign Lord, Ruler of all creation, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging Your absolute authority over our lives and circumstances. In these moments of prayer, we reflect deeply on the words of Esther 7:8, where King Ahasuerus, returning from the garden, found Haman—an enemy of Your people—laying hands upon Queen Esther, and immediately recognized the gravity of the situation. And in his righteous outrage, he exclaimed, ‘Will he force the queen also before me in the house?’, which led to Haman’s downfall. This account resonates deeply with our cries for justice, Lord, as it encapsulates the swift and decisive action You are capable of in the face of injustice.
Dear Father, just as You delivered Esther and Your people from Haman’s wicked scheme, we plead for Your divine intervention in our own lives. We stand against the injustices that assail us—whether they arise from individuals or systems that work against Your purposes. Like Haman, our adversaries may lay in wait, seeking to snare us, but we are reminded today that justice is in Your hands. We ask that You cover their faces, as You did for Haman. Silencing their wicked intents and revealing their conspiracies, transform their plans into folly.
Lord, grant us strength to resist temptations and oppression in our lives. We often find ourselves in positions resembling Esther's, grappling with fears as we confront challenges that threaten our well-being and the well-being of others. Evoke in us the same courage that Esther exhibited; help us to stand firm in the face of adversaries, equipped with wisdom and righteous fervor to seek justice and protection for ourselves and for our communities.
We beseech You, Almighty God, to open our eyes to recognize the injustices around us. Help us build supportive communities that rise up against wickedness. May we, like Esther, use our voices not only to defend ourselves but to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves—the oppressed, the marginalized, and the voiceless. As You champion for us, instill in us the desire to be champions for others. May we never grow weary in doing good.
Jesus, You came to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind; You have called us to mirror Your love and justice in our lives. May we be instruments of Your peace amidst chaos and arbiters of Your justice where there is wrong. As the king turned from the garden—away from a place of peace and contemplation—back to the banquet where Haman’s plans crumbled before him, help us understand that even when we feel alone or cornered by our challenges, our moments of solace lead to moments where we can deliver truth.
Empower us, Holy Spirit, to discern the threats to unity and righteousness that can arise within our spheres of influence. Guide us in our spheres, so the Enemy cannot take root among us. Protect our hearts and homes as we strive to honor You. Keep us united in purpose and action, as we seek to reflect light in the darkness.
Lastly, Lord, as we dwell on the justice You executed in the story of Esther, remind us always that vengeance belongs to You, our God. May we trust in Your timing for retribution and for restoration. May we declare with boldness that every Haman must encounter Your justice, for no intent of the wicked can thwart Your perfect will. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
