A Prayer for Courage to Move Forward
"¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:" - Exodus 14:15

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the powerful words You spoke to Moses in Exodus 14:15, saying, ‘And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.’ Lord, as I reflect on this verse, I understand that there are moments in our lives when we find ourselves standing on the brink of despair, overwhelmed by our circumstances, much like the children of Israel did before the Red Sea. Yet, instead of retreating or remaining paralyzed by fear, You call us to move forward.
Father, I ask for the strength to heed Your call to go forward. Help me to recognize when I am crying out in despair rather than seeking Your guidance and clarity. Just as You challenged Moses to speak to the Israelites, give me the confidence to speak life and encouragement into my own heart and those around me. In times of trouble, when it feels impossible to move, remind me that You are the God of the impossible and that with You, nothing is too hard.
Lord, instill within me a courageous heart that persists in faith even when the way forward seems blocked or unclear. Help me to hear Your voice, guiding me forward rather than allowing the clamor of fear and doubt to drown out Your counsel. Let my prayer not simply rise in fear at the challenges I face, but rather become a declaration of faith in Your unfailing promises. Help me to remember that it is by faith we walk and not by sight – and You have promised to lead me through storms and red seas alike.
God, I pray for wisdom to understand the direction You want me to take as I move forward. Just as You instructed Moses, speak to me, Lord – guide my thoughts, illuminate my path, and grant me clarity in each decision I make. Help me to discern the challenges that lie ahead with Your perspective, that I may approach them with confidence rather than trepidation.
Heavenly Father, I confess that sometimes I feel like I am stuck in a cycle of waiting – waiting for a sign, waiting for the storm to pass, waiting for the right opportunity. But Your words remind me that action is often required. The Israelites could have remained rooted in fear until they were trapped, but You pushed them forward into the unknown. Teach me to embrace the unknown, to take steps forward even when the path seems unclear, trusting that You will make a way, just as You did for them.
I lift up my fears and burdens to You, Lord, and ask that You replace them with courage and hope. May I carry the message of hope to my family, friends, and community, encouraging them to step out in faith. Help me to be an agent of Your love, a beacon of hope for those around me, as together we move forward into the future You have planned for us.
As I strive to move forward, remind me that the road may not be easy, and obstacles will arise. Yet, I find solace in knowing that You are with me every step of the way. Just as You parted the Red Sea for the Israelites, reveal the ways in which You are preparing a path for me, and grant me the faith to step into it boldly.
Finally, I thank You for the promise of Your presence. You do not leave us to struggle alone, but walk with us, leading and guiding us with love. Let every step I take be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness. May the courage to move forward not only transform my life but glorify You in all aspects.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
