A Prayer for Compassion and Deliverance Inspired by Exodus 2:11
"¶ And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren." - Exodus 2:11

O Holy and Eternal Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of reverence and awe for Your greatness and grace. We pause to reflect upon the profound lesson embedded in the scripture of Exodus 2:11, which reads, "And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren." Lord, as we ponder the depth of this passage, we seek Your wisdom and guidance in understanding our own responsibilities towards our fellow men and women.
Heavenly Father, we remember the moment when Moses stepped out into the world that surrounded him. He grew up in the palace, isolated from the harsh realities faced by his brethren, the Hebrews. But as he grew, so did his awareness. You placed within him a heart that yearned for connection with his kin. Open our eyes, Lord, as You opened Moses's eyes. Help us to see the burdens carried by those around us, those in our communities who suffer injustices, oppression, and despair.
Gracious God, just as Moses observed the brutal act of violence against his brother, help us to recognize the pain inflicted upon the marginalized and oppressed in our society today. Grant us the spirit of empathy, Lord. May we never be blind to the injustices that tear apart the fabric of our communities. When we witness suffering—whether through violence, discrimination, or neglect—let our hearts be moved to action. Let us not turn away for fear, apathy, or indifference, but let us engage in compassionate action, driven by the love that You have infused within us.
Oh Lord, instill within us the courage to stand up for the oppressed. Help us to embody the values of justice and mercy that You have taught us throughout the Scriptures. It is easy to live in comfort, to shield ourselves from the plight of the downtrodden, but awaken in us the spirit of Moses— a spirit unyielding in the face of oppression. Teach us, dear Father, to approach those who suffer with the same heart Moses displayed, to look at their burdens, to share in their pain, and to seek ways to alleviate their struggles.
We pray for wisdom and discernment as we confront the complexities of our world. As we respond to oppression and injustice, guide our words and actions that they may be rooted in love and understanding, rather than anger and haste. Help us to remember that anger often leads to violence, as was the consequence of Moses's initial reaction. So, let us learn from his story and approach our fights for justice not from a place of hatred but from the profound love we receive from You, Lord.
Father of mercy, we also lift up all those who are suffering in the shadows today—those who are marginalized, mistreated, and overlooked. We ask for Your comforting presence to be with them. May they feel Your love surrounding them, and may they know that they are not forgotten. Raise up voices to speak on their behalf, and empower Your people to act with justice in every sphere of life.
As we conclude our prayer, we thank You for the example of Moses—a man who went from comfort to courageous action. Inspire us through his journey to pursue a life of bold faith, where we continually seek to do Your work, standing against injustice and demonstrating brotherly love in all that we do.
In the name of Jesus Christ, who is our ultimate example of compassion and sacrifice, we pray. Amen.
