A Prayer for Strength in Scattered Times
"So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw." - Exodus 5:12

Dear Heavenly Father,
As I come before Your throne of grace today, I reflect upon the plight of Your people as described in Exodus 5:12, where it is written, "So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw." In this verse, O Lord, I see a powerful representation of hardship and toil, and it stirs my heart with compassion for all who today find themselves in similar circumstances, scattered and burdened.
Lord, I lift up those who feel lost and aimless in their struggles. Just as Your people were commanded to gather stubble, they were faced with an overwhelming task that seemed insurmountable. They were exhausted, forced to subsist on less than what they needed, and it is in such moments that despair creeps in. In their plight, I recognize the faces of so many around me who are grappling with trials—whether they be financial, relational, or spiritual. Father, I beseech You to grant them strength and relief. May they be reminded that though they feel scattered, You are always near.
I ask, Lord, that You would chase away the shadows of fear and hopelessness that cloud their hearts. As they labor in their circumstances, remind them that You are the God who sees them, the God who hears their cries. Just as You witnessed the struggles of the Israelites, I pray that those who gather fragments of their lives, like stubble, may feel Your presence strengthening them in their efforts. Allow them to see You in the mundane and the difficult; let them remember that You provide sustenance and strength, even when all that seems available is not enough.
Help them to understand that gathering stubble is a momentary phase and not the final destination. Even when the burdens of life feel like they are too heavy to bear, remind them that every effort sown in faith will bear fruit in due season as promised in Galatians 6:9. Encourage their weary spirits, O Lord, and uplift them with Your unyielding love.
Lord, I also ask for community support for those who feel isolated in their struggles. Just as the Israelites were scattered, let not those around them neglect to notice their plight. May we be Your hands and feet in this world, ever-ready to extend a helping hand or a kind word. Teach us to cultivate a spirit of empathy and compassion for those who gather their 'stubble.' Let us foster a culture where we actively seek out to uplift the downtrodden and share our abundance with those who are in want.
Father, I bring before You prayers for the leaders and decision-makers in our communities. Let them be filled with righteousness and compassion, ensuring that fair support systems are in place for those who labor under the weight of their challenges. Lead them by Your wisdom, so that they may not turn a blind eye to the needs of the scattered and weary.
As I pray, my heart yearns for change and revival in the areas where sorrow and strife abound. I believe, Lord, that You are a God of restoration. I claim healing for the wounds, both seen and unseen, that burden Your people. Lift them up, give them peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind them that their worth is not measured by the stubble they gather but by Your love for them.
Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer. I trust that You are working behind the scenes, piecing together what seems shattered in the lives of Your people. Provide a roadmap for those navigating their struggles and assure them that they are never truly alone. In Jesus’ Holy Name I pray,
Amen.
