A Cry of Intercession: For the People of God

"Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh." - Ezekiel 21:12

"Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh." - Ezekiel 21:{verse.verse_number}

O Gracious and Eternal God, Creator of heaven and earth,

I come before You in reverence and humility, seeking Your presence in this hour of deep reflection and earnest prayer. As I meditate upon the words of Your prophet Ezekiel, I cannot help but feel overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility You place upon our shoulders as Your people. In Ezekiel 21:12, You commanded, "Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh."

Father, I lift up my voice to You, echoing the call to cry out, not only for my own life but for the lives of all Your children. We live in a world that is often darkened by violence, strife, and division, and Your Word reveals the serious consequences of turning away from You. Lord, You see the injustices and the terrors that plague our communities, our nations, and even our churches. Like Your faithful servant Ezekiel, I stand in the gap, crying and howling for a world that seems to have lost its way.

In my heart, I hear the echo of Your concern for Your people, "it shall be upon my people." How often did the leaders of Israel stray from Your path, Lord? How often have we allowed our hearts to be hardened, our ears to be deafened to Your call? Forgive us, O God, for the complacency that has crept into our lives. Forgive us for the moments we have chosen comfort over conviction, and convenience over calling. You have told us to smite upon our thigh, a sign of mourning and a physical plea for repentance; help us to understand the severity of our actions and the consequences they bear.

Father, I implore You to awaken our spirits. Let us not turn a blind eye to the terrors that surround us, neither let us harden our hearts to the suffering of others. We are reminded that we are our brother's keeper, and when one suffers, we all suffer. Help us to bear each other’s burdens, to intercede for those who are lost and broken, and to stand with those who suffer under the weight of oppression.

As You commanded Ezekiel, I cry out for the princes of Israel—those who are in positions of authority, leadership, and influence. Father, may they seek You with all their hearts. May they not govern by their own understanding or succumb to the temptations of power but lead with justice, mercy, and humility. May they seek Your face and enact laws that honor You, protect the innocent, and care for the marginalized.

O Lord, as I smite upon my thigh, I ask for Your compassion to flow through me. Instill within me an urgency to pray fervently for the peace of Jerusalem and for all Your people scattered throughout the world. Let my heart break for what breaks Yours. Let my prayers be fervent and effectual, rising like incense before Your throne.

God of all comfort, I beseech You to pour out Your healing over Your people. Where there is pain, bring healing; where there is despair, bring hope; where there is division, bring unity. Help us to recognize the urgency of the times we live in, that we might be equipped to stand firm in faith, to speak truth in love, and to demonstrate Your grace to a world in need.

Thank You, O Lord, for hearing my cry. Thank You for the promise that You are with us, even in the face of terrors. May we never forget Your unfailing love and unending grace as we navigate through the challenges that lie ahead. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
