A Prayer for Wisdom and Collaboration
"The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise." - Ezekiel 27:9

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I thank You for the sacred Scriptures that guide us in our daily lives. Your Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). I reflect on Ezekiel 27:9, where it speaks of the ancients of Gebal and their great wisdom, acknowledging the vital role they played as calkers for the ships of the sea. I humbly approach You, Lord, seeking understanding and insight that I may also embrace the wisdom You desire for me in my life.
Oh Lord, as the ancients of Gebal contributed their craftsmanship towards building and maintaining ships, may I become a vessel of Your peace and love. Just as these wise men were skilled in their trade, allow me to cultivate my own gifts and talents that I may serve others in meaningful ways. Help me to understand the unique purpose You have placed within me and to embrace it wholeheartedly.
You, O Lord, are the ultimate source of wisdom. From You flows the understanding that can build up and strengthen our communities. I pray for the wisdom to collaborate with others, just as the calkers worked alongside the mariners to ensure the ships could hold their precious cargo. Teach me the importance of unity in purpose, where we each play our part to contribute to something greater than ourselves. May I recognize the gifts in others and learn to appreciate their contributions as well.
Lord, I ask for grace to be a person of integrity—like those ancients who were trusted in their craft. Without integrity, our work, whether it be in trade, service, or ministry, loses its value. I want my actions to reflect Your character so that others may see You in me. May I always strive for excellence in all that I do, seeking to honor you with my diligence and attention to detail.
As those ships occupied their merchandise, I pray for the ability to occupy my days meaningfully. Let each moment of my life be filled with purpose and direction. Teach me to manage my time and resources wisely, to invest them in ways that bring glory to Your name. Help me to prioritize my commitments and to discern what is truly valuable, according to Your will.
I pray for the mariners of the world—the leaders, mentors, and guides—those steering the ships through the storms and calm waters alike. Empower them with wisdom, insight, and the ability to navigate the challenges they face without fear. As the ancients of Gebal supported the mariners in their trade, I pray that we too may offer encouragement and support to those in our lives who carry heavy burdens.
Lord, I humbly ask for Your guidance in my professional and personal relationships. May I find ways to bless others as You have blessed me. Help me to engage with my community meaningfully, finding opportunities to uplift and foster collaboration rather than division. May I never take for granted the chance to learn from those around me, knowing that through their experiences and wisdom, I might gain insights for my own path.
In closing, I thank You, Lord, for the providence and wisdom You pour into our lives each day. Help me to be receptive to Your lessons, to grow in understanding and ability, and to become a true calker in the lives of those surrounding me. Just as the wise men of Gebal contributed to the success of the ships, I pray that my contributions would point others towards You. May all that I do be a testimony to Your love and grace.
In Jesus’ precious name, I pray,
Amen.
