O Lord, God of our fathers, we come before You today with humble hearts, reflecting on the words found in the book of Ezra, particularly Ezra 2:53, which mentions, "The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Thamah."

In these names, we see not just families or lineage; we see Your people, who have endured adversity and separation, now seeking restoration and unity. We recognize the power that lies in our names, that they signify identity and purpose, as well as the collective memory of our people. We lift them up to You, O God, inviting Your presence into our communities, as we pray for unity among us, similar to that of the children of Barkos, Sisera, and Thamah, who emerged from the challenge of exile to reclaim their place in Jerusalem, their homeland.

We acknowledge that like these children, we often face trials that threaten to divide us. Lord, help us to remember our shared heritage as Your children. May we find strength in our common background and purpose, foregoing division for the sake of unity. Help us break down the barriers of misunderstanding, prejudice, and individualism that hinder our ability to see each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Foster in us a community spirit that mirrors the perseverance and resolve of those who returned to rebuild their identity and their temple.

Lord, as the children of Barkos, Sisera, and Thamah descended from diverse origins, may we also embrace our differences with grace and acceptance. Help us see that each person brings unique gifts and perspectives that enrich the tapestry of our community. Nehemiah 4:6 tells us that the people had a mind to work. Make us diligent in our works, driven by love and a desire for restorative progress in our families and societies.

Finally, we entrust all children of Barkos, Sisera, and Thamah, including our own families and future generations, into Your loving hands.
