A Prayer for Divine Guidance and Strength in Leadership

"¶ Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them," - Ezra 8:24

"¶ Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them," - Ezra 8:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before Your throne today, I am filled with gratitude for the gift of your Word that sustains us in our journeys. Today, I meditate on the passage from Ezra 8:24, which reminds us of the importance of leadership, unity, and service to You and to one another. In this verse, we see Ezra, a man who sought Your face earnestly, setting apart those who were to lead with him. 'Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them.' Lord, I take this moment to reflect on the significance of appointing leaders who are not only faithful but are deeply committed to fulfilling Your mission.

Father, just as Ezra took great care in selecting those who would serve, I ask that you grant me wisdom and discernment in the decisions I make in my own life. Help me to surround myself with individuals who share a heart for You and a desire to bring glory to Your name. Give me the insight to know whom to call alongside me in the various assignments and tasks that lie ahead, especially those that require not only skill but also integrity and faithfulness.

Lord, I pray for a spirit of servanthood to rise within each of us, so that we may be willing to take on the responsibilities You set before us. When faced with great challenges, remind us, just like Ezra and the leaders he appointed, that we are not alone; You go before us, and You will guide us. Help us to remember that our strength comes not from our own abilities but from Your power working within us. May we lean on You for guidance in our striving toward holiness, understanding that true leadership is found in humility and service.

God, I specifically lift up to You those whom I seek to follow, or those I am called to lead. May their hearts be steadfast in their faithfulness to their calling. I ask that, just like Sherebiah and Hashabiah, they remain committed to upholding Your truth and righteousness. Surround them with opportunities for growth and with the support they need to fulfill the destinies You have set before them.

In my prayers today, I would like to focus on unity within the community You have placed me in. Help us to be like the brethren who stood with Sherebiah and Hashabiah—working together harmoniously, each contributing their unique gifts and talents for the glory of Your kingdom. Teach us to be patient and loving, even during times of disagreement or miscommunication. Allow our hearts to reflect Your character so that we act with kindness and respect toward one another.

And Lord, as we strive to fulfill our roles in leadership, I ask for a heart that is always seeking You. Help us not to become complacent or complacently distracted by the tasks at hand. Remind us to seek Your will continually, that we might be attuned to Your voice. Give us clarity when we face uncertainty and courage when we feel weak. Just as Ezra relied on Your strength, may we do the same, trusting that You are always with us, guiding us along the way.

And finally, Father, as I conclude my prayer, I thank You for Your faithfulness through the ages. I thank You for the leaders who labor tirelessly for Your glory, who inspire us, challenge us, and lead us closer to You. Help us all to consider how we fit into the broader mission of Your Church, and may we choose to step into our roles equipped and empowered by Your Spirit.

In Jesus' name, I pray,

Amen.
