Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit: A Prayer from Galatians 5:22 (KJV)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith," - Galatians 5:22

Most Holy and Gracious Father,
I come before Thee in humility, with reverence and thanksgiving, acknowledging that without Thee I can do nothing. Thou art the Giver of life, the Redeemer of the broken, and the Sanctifier of the hearts of Thy people. I praise Thee for Thy Word that is true, pure, and powerful, and I ask that Thou wouldst write it upon my heart, that my life may be conformed unto Thy will.
Lord, I bring before Thee the words of Scripture from Galatians 5:22 in the King James Version: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”. Father, I confess that these fruits are not produced by my own strength, nor by my own efforts, but by Thy Spirit dwelling within and working through me. Therefore, I surrender my pride, my impatience, my self-reliance, and my hidden sins to Thee. Cleanse me, O Lord, and make me a vessel meet for Thy use.
Father, let “love” be formed in me—not a love that is merely spoken, but a love that is lived. Teach me to love Thee with a whole heart, and to love others in sincerity, even when it costs me comfort, recognition, or convenience. Help me to forgive as I have been forgiven. Remove from me bitterness, envy, resentment, and harsh judgment. Let my love be patient and pure, rooted in truth and guided by Thy wisdom.
Lord, grant me “joy” that does not rise and fall with circumstances. When trials come, and when tears are near, lift mine eyes unto Thee. Fill my inward parts with a joy that is steady, holy, and strong; a joy that remembers Thy promises and trusts Thy faithfulness. May my joy bear witness that Christ is enough, and that Thy grace is sufficient.
Bless me with “peace,” O God, the kind of peace that guards the heart and mind. Quiet the storms within me: my anxious thoughts, my fears about tomorrow, my regrets about yesterday. Teach me to rest in Thy providence and to dwell in the assurance that Thou art in control. Make me a peacemaker in my home, in my friendships, and in every place Thou sendest me, that my presence may reflect the calm and order of Thy Spirit.
Father, grow in me “longsuffering.” When I am tested by delays, disappointments, or difficult people, keep me from anger and rash speech. Strengthen me to endure without complaining, to persevere without losing hope, and to wait upon Thee without despair. Help me to remember how patient Thou hast been with me, and let that remembrance shape my reactions.
Teach me “gentleness,” Lord. Make my words soft and healing rather than sharp and wounding. Let my tone be humble, my responses measured, and my heart tender. When I must speak truth, help me to do so with compassion and grace. Deliver me from arrogance, from the need to win every argument, and from the desire to be seen as right rather than righteous.
Work in me “goodness,” O Father. Let my actions be clean, honest, and upright. Give me courage to do what is right when it is unpopular, and strength to turn away from what is evil even when it is tempting. Make me quick to help, ready to serve, and willing to give. Let the hidden parts of my life be pleasing unto Thee, not merely my outward appearance.
And Lord, establish in me “faith.” Increase my trust in Thee when I cannot see the way forward. Teach me to believe Thy Word above my feelings, to stand upon Thy promises above my circumstances, and to follow Thy leading even when the path requires sacrifice. When doubts arise, draw me nearer; when weakness is revealed, be Thou my strength.
Father, I ask that these fruits would not be occasional moments, but a continual harvest. Let my life be a testimony that Thy Spirit is at work within me. Prune what must be pruned, correct what must be corrected, and nurture what must be nurtured, that I may grow in grace. Keep me near to Thee, for I know that apart from Thy Spirit, I will return to the works of the flesh. But by Thy mercy, let my life display the beauty of holiness.
I yield myself to Thee today. Fill me afresh with Thy Holy Spirit, and let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in my thoughts, my words, and my deeds. I ask these things with a trusting heart, giving Thee all the glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When the Holy Spirit truly leads you, your life will bear unmistakable good fruit, visible in your thoughts, words, and actions. St. Paul outlines these fruits in Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Imagine what it would be like to consistently embody these qualities—to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, and self-controlled. Perhaps you think, “That sounds like Jesus, not me!” Many would feel blessed if even a few of these virtues consistently marked their lives. But such thinking underestimates the Spirit’s transformative power. These fruits that defined Christ’s life are also meant to define ours. The Holy Spirit’s work within us is profound; it is a lifelong process of transformation that aligns us with the very nature of Christ. By allowing the Spirit to guide us, we aren’t just hoping to mirror some aspects of Jesus—we are empowered to grow fully in His likeness.
