A Prayer for Discernment in a Confused World
"¶ Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" - Isaiah 5:20

Heavenly Father,
In this sacred moment, I come before You with a heart burdened by the confusion pervading our world today. Your Word in Isaiah 5:20 resonates deeply within me, and I echo the words of the prophet, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" How profound this warning is, Lord! We find ourselves surrounded by a society that blurs the lines between what is righteous and what is wrong, often embracing light as darkness and dismissing the vibrant beauty of Your truth.
Lord, I seek Your wisdom and clarity to discern the goodness of Your ways. In a time when morals seem to be shifting like sand, I ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit to illuminate my mind and heart. Teach me to walk firmly on the path of light, not swayed by the opinions and philosophies of this world that may turn a blind eye to evil. Grant me the strength to resist the temptations that promise sweetness yet deliver bitterness in the end. I long to be anchored in Your truth, Lord.
Help me to understand the depth of this verse, to recognize the deceptive nature of a society that claims righteousness while condoning unrighteousness. I pray for humility, compassion, and understanding as I navigate my relationships with others who might see the world through skewed lenses. Let my words and actions reflect the goodness You instill in me. May I never be one who disregards the moral absolutes laid out in Your teachings, nor contribute to the rising tide of falsehoods that turn our hearts away from You.
Lord, cleanse my heart of any confusion or compromise. Purge any bitterness that might have taken root because of witnessing darkness masquerading as light. Instead, imbue me with a sweetness that reflects Your grace and love. Help me to show kindness and gentleness to those who may be trapped in the web of lies that deny Your goodness. May I be a beacon of hope, shining brightly in a world that yearns for the embrace of Your truth.
In this prayer, I also lift up those who have wandered far from the understanding of good and evil. Lord, I plead for the lost souls who call evil good — for those who justify actions that break Your heart. Intercede for them, soften their hearts, and create a spirit of conviction within them that cries out for the light of Your love. Use me, Father, as an instrument in Your hands, to help guide these souls back home to You.
As I reflect on this truth today, I desire to embody Your light in every setting I find myself. May my family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers be able to see the reflection of Your character in my life. Let my actions and inner thoughts align with Your heart so that I may be a witness for You amid contrasting ideals.
I commit to standing up for Your values, proclaiming the goodness of Your creation, and loving others in ways that represent Your love. Help me to speak truth with grace, to encourage those who are struggling, and to embrace the sweetness of Your Word over the bitterness offered by this world.
Thank You, Lord, for the transformative power of Your truth that transcends time and culture. May I always seek to call good good, and evil evil, for Your glory, protecting the sanctified boundaries that You have established. In everything I do, help me to honor You, and to be a part of Your eternal Kingdom, which stands firm against the tides of confusion and moral ambiguity.
In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
