“Here Am I; Send Me” — A Prayer of Surrender, Cleansing, and Commission

Commentary Devotional Prayer

Holy and Sovereign Lord,

I come before You with reverence and awe, remembering the moment recorded in Your Word: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8, KJV). Father, I ask that this Scripture not remain only a sentence I admire, but become a living response rising from the depths of my heart. Let me not merely hear that You are calling; teach me to answer. Let me not only be moved by the beauty of Isaiah’s willingness; form in me the same surrendered spirit.

Lord, I acknowledge that Your voice is holy, weighty, and true. When You ask, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” You are not searching because You lack power—you are inviting because You desire obedience, love, and partnership in Your purposes. Forgive me for the times I have been slow to respond, cautious out of fear, or silent out of comfort. Forgive me for the excuses I have entertained—waiting for perfect conditions, greater strength, more confidence, clearer understanding, or safer paths. You are worthy of my “yes,” even when I do not see all that lies ahead.

Yet, Lord, I confess that I cannot offer myself lightly. I remember that Isaiah’s “Here am I; send me” came from a place of encounter and cleansing. So I ask You first: search me and reveal what must be surrendered. Show me the hidden pride that wants to be seen, the selfishness that wants to be served, the resentment that resists love, and the unbelief that shrinks back. Cleanse my thoughts, purify my motives, and sanctify my words. If there is anything in me that would corrupt the work You would do through me, remove it with Your mercy and truth. Make my heart tender toward You, quick to repent, and eager to obey.

Father, I ask for courage to stand in my generation with humility and conviction. When You call, let me not weigh my life against the cost and decide I cannot afford obedience. Rather, let me see that my life is already Yours. Teach me to say, not with impulse but with deep resolve, “Here am I; send me.” Send me into the places where Your light is needed—into conversations marked by despair, into homes burdened by conflict, into friendships strained by misunderstanding, into workplaces clouded by dishonesty, into communities longing for compassion, into moments where truth must be spoken with love. Give me grace to go where You send, to remain where You station, and to return when You redirect.

Lord, make me willing not only to be sent far, but to be faithful near. Send me to serve in quiet ways that receive no applause. Send me to pray when no one sees, to give when it costs, to listen when I would rather speak, to forgive when I would rather withdraw. Send me to love those who are difficult to love, to bless those who do not bless me, and to show kindness that expects nothing in return. Keep me from performing righteousness for recognition; make my obedience pure.

And as You send me, Lord, equip me. Put Your words in my mouth and Your compassion in my heart. Give me wisdom to discern times and seasons, patience to endure delays, and strength to persevere through opposition. Teach me to rely on You rather than my own ability. When I feel inadequate, remind me that You are the One who calls and the One who empowers. Let my life be a vessel that points to You, so that any good done through me would bring glory to Your name alone.

Father, I ask that the answer Isaiah gave would become my daily posture: “Here am I.” Not only once, but again and again—when I wake, when I plan, when I face uncertainty, when I am interrupted, when I am afraid, and when I am tired. Keep my heart responsive. Let my “send me” be more than words; let it be obedience in motion.

So today, Lord, I hear Your question echoing through Your Word—“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”—and by Your grace I respond: “Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8, KJV). Receive my life as an offering. Lead me where You will. Use me as You desire. Keep me faithful until the work You have appointed is complete.
