A Prayer of Rest for the Weary Soul
"Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest." - Jeremiah 45:3

O Lord God,
I come before Thee today with a heart heavy with the echoes of Jeremiah’s lament, as written in Jeremiah 45:3, "Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest." In this moment of prayer, I invoke the spirit of earnestness and sincerity that the prophet Jeremiah displayed when facing overwhelming sorrow and despair.
Gracious Father, I acknowledge that there are times when the burdens of life feel insurmountable. There are moments when grief wraps around me like a heavy cloak and sorrow weighs me down like a heavy stone. I join with Jeremiah in his lamentation and echo his cries when I say, "Woe is me." In the tumult of life, the chaos of this world, and the struggles that seem endless, I find myself sighing deeply, longing for relief, and searching for rest.
O Lord, in these moments of despair, I remind myself of Your promises. You are near to the broken-hearted and comfort those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Yet, I find my heart aching and yearning for the sweet assurance of Thy presence. Help me, Lord, to turn my eyes from my troubles and focus them on Thy faithfulness. Help me find solace in the truth that You are aware of my plight; You hear my sighing, and You understand my grievances even when I cannot articulate them.
Father, I often find myself fainting in my sighing, praying silently for strength that I feel fading away. In moments of weakness, I need Thy light to shine into my darkness, to illuminate the path ahead, and to bring hope to my weary soul. Remind me that Jesus invites those who are heavy-laden to come unto Him for rest (Matthew 11:28). Help me to cast my burdens upon His shoulders and to find refuge in His everlasting arms.
Lord, I ask for the grace to endure through the seasons of sorrow, to trust in Your timing and plans even when understanding eludes me. It is easy to lose sight of hope when the weight of our afflictions blinds us to the blessings yet to come. May I be reminded that my current sorrows are but momentary afflictions compared to the eternal weight of glory that awaits me (2 Corinthians 4:17). Teach me to wait patiently on You, O Lord, and to occupy my heart with gratitude, even amidst tears.
I pray that You will send Your Holy Spirit to comfort me during these trying times. As the Comforter, may He embrace me in my grief, intercede for me when words fail, and whisper words of hope into the depths of my spirit. Help me to remember, dear Lord, that You will never leave me nor forsake me, even through the shadows of despair.
Help me, O God, to cultivate moments of rest—peaceful times to recharge my soul, to meditate on Your Word, and to bask in Your loving presence. Lead me to still waters and restore my soul, as You have promised (Psalm 23:2-3).
As I turn my face toward You, I seek healing—not just for my emotional wounds but for my entire being. Heal broken areas of my life, and transform my grief into a testimony of Your unfailing love. May my heart ring out with songs of praise as I find restoration in You, O Lord.
In Your mercy, grant me the rest and peace that surpass all understanding, binding my heart and mind to You. I surrender my grief to You, and I trust that in Your hands, it will turn to joy. Remember me, O Lord, in my time of need, and lift me up, for I place my faith in You.
In the name of Jesus, I pray,
Amen.
