A Prayer for Comfort in Sickness: Inspired by John 11:2
"(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)" - John 11:2

Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and humility. I stand in awe of Your majesty, Your love, and Your grace. As I meditate on the words found in John 11:2, "It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick," I am reminded of the profound depth of love and devotion that Mary showed to Your Son, Jesus Christ. It warms my spirit to see such a beautiful act of worship intertwined with a moment of need and sorrow.
O Lord, Mary’s love for Jesus is a model for my own life. I pray that I may be filled with deep affection and devotion towards You, just as she was for Your Son. May I find the courage to pour out my heart and soul in service to You, offering my gifts, my time, and my very self, not just in times of joy, but also during moments of pain. As Mary wiped the feet of Jesus with her hair, I want to lay aside my pride and serve with humility.
Father, the verse reminds me of the reality of sickness and suffering. Lazarus, Mary’s brother, was gravely ill. Lord, I pray for all those who are sick, who are fighting battles they cannot see—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Just as Mary poured her heart out in her brother's time of need, I ask that You give me a heart that stills in prayer for those who are ill. Help me to stand in the gap for them, to cry out to You on their behalf, and to be hope and support for them.
Compassionate God, give strength to those who are weary and stricken with illness. When they feel alone in their suffering, wrap Your loving arms around them, reminding them that Your presence is constant and Your power is perfect in weakness. Healing Lord, I ask for Your miraculous healing touch to be upon those who are in need—those battling diseases, enduring chronic pain, and facing the uncertainties of their health. May they feel Your peace that surpasses all understanding and find solace in knowing that their pain is seen and known by You.
As I think about Mary’s grief over her brother Lazarus, I cannot help but feel that grief mingled with hope. God, I ask that You would remind all those who mourn that death is not the end. Just as Jesus arrived in Bethany and brought Lazarus back to life, I pray that we would all be filled with hope and the promise of resurrection and healing—both now and in eternity. Encourage us to trust in Your plans, even when they seem confusing or unclear.
Lord, help me to remember that Your timing is perfect. When we are in the midst of trials, it can be difficult to understand why pain and suffering exist. Yet, I lean on the truth that You are sovereign and loving, that Your will is higher than my own. Teach me, Father, to wait with patience, to endure with strength, and to trust that You are working all things together for good.
As I reflect on Mary’s devotion to Jesus in her darkest moments, I pray that I too would be a faithful disciple—a friend who intercedes for others, lifting their needs to You, and trusting in Your goodness. Remind me to be bold in seeking You, both for myself and for those I love.
In Your infinite mercy, extend Your healing hands to my loved ones and to all who suffer. May we all experience the profound depth of Your love and healing grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
