A Prayer of Reflection and Praise in Light of the Miraculous

"The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him." - John 12:12-19

O Gracious and Almighty God,

We gather our hearts in reverence and awe before You, as we reflect upon the wondrous events chronicled in the sacred scriptures, specifically from the Gospel of John 12:12-19. Your Word reminds us of the day when the multitude gathered in joyous procession, celebrating the miraculous raising of Lazarus from the dead. We stand in gratitude for the power of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who demonstrated His dominion over death, turning mourning into joy and despair into hope.

O Lord, we acknowledge the multitude that bore witness to this great miracle. In their excitement, they welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem, waving palm branches and shouting praises. They bore record of Your mighty works, proclaiming the truth of who Jesus is: not merely a prophet, but the embodiment of Life itself.

As we consider the sheer magnitude of this event, we are reminded that similar to the crowd present that day, we too are witnesses to Your grace and mercy in our lives. Just as the people gathered to see the Savior—having heard of the miraculous act of raising Lazarus—we are drawn to You, Lord, by the transformative works You continue to perform within our own hearts and lives.

We thank You for the miracles we have experienced, both big and small. We acknowledge the times when we, like Lazarus, have been called forth from our own tombs of despair, darkness, and hopelessness. Lord, may we never take for granted the power of Your voice that calls to our very souls, inviting us into new life and purpose. Help us to share our testimonies as boldly as the witnesses shared theirs.

Father, we also pray for those who still carry the weight of doubt and are in desperate need of Your touch. May they encounter Your presence in profound ways, opening their eyes to the truth that You are still in the business of resurrection, healing, and deliverance. Ignite in them the same fervor that stirred the crowd, so that they may come to understand the depth of Your love and grace toward humanity.

In the scriptures, we see the response of the Pharisees, who perceived that their authority was waning, as they whispered among themselves concerning the actions of the multitude. They declared, "Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him." Father, may we not be like the Pharisees—filled with envy and pride—but rather filled with humility and love.

Grant us discernment, Lord, to recognize the ways in which our own hearts may resist the glorious work You are doing. Teach us to celebrate the successes of others in faith, rather than succumbing to jealousy or division. Keep us united as one body of believers, rejoicing together in the advancements of Your Kingdom on this earth.

Empower us, O God, to live as a testament to Your truth—to be a voice that boldly declares Your goodness, inviting others into the joyful celebration of Your love and mercy. As we shout praises of “Hosanna” in our own lives, may we encourage those around us to seek and follow You as their King.

Finally, we ask that You help us to remain steadfast amidst the noise of the world. Let our hearts be anchored in the truth of Your Scriptures, and our focus remain on Christ as we anticipate His return. May we continually lift our voices to proclaim Your glory, declaring the wonderful works You have done.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, who alone deserves our praise and adoration, we pray. Amen.

John 12:12-19 - "The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!” Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: “Do not be afraid, Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him. Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him. So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”"
