A Prayer for Eternal Life Through Christ's Sacrifice
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." - John 3:14-15

O Heavenly Father,
As we come before You today, our hearts are filled with reverence and awe as we reflect on the profound truth outlined in the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verses 14 and 15, where it is written: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."
Lord, we acknowledge that this passage reveals the depth of Your love and the magnitude of Your grace. Just as the Israelites, in their desperate plight, looked upon the bronze serpent and were healed, we too are called to fix our eyes upon Jesus, who was lifted high for our salvation. O Christ, You willingly endured the cross, and in doing so, You became the source of our eternal hope. We thank You, Lord, for this perfect example of love and sacrifice.
In the wilderness, the Israelites were plagued by serpents as a consequence of their disobedience—an image that speaks to the reality of our sin. We recognize that we are not devoid of sin ourselves, and yet You, dear Savior, took upon Yourself the burden of sin for all humanity. You bore our transgressions, and through Your suffering and death, You provided the ultimate antidote for our soul’s affliction. We are eternally grateful, Lord, that You have offered us this path to redemption.
As we meditate on Your words, I pray that You would help us to internalize this truth deeply. Help us to understand the profound promise that You have given us: that "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." Lord, may we be among those who believe wholeheartedly. As we place our faith in You, may we experience the fullness of life that You have assured us, a life not merely existing here on earth, but a life eternal in Your presence.
Lord, grant us the courage to share this hope with others. Help us to be bold in our testimonies, proclaiming the good news that Your love is extended to all—regardless of past mistakes, regardless of the depths of despair they may feel. Teach us to be vessels of Your grace, leading others to the cross, where they may encounter the same healing we have found. Stir in us a passion for evangelism, that we may not shy away from speaking the truth of the Gospel, but instead, may we lead others to look upon You, the lifted Savior.
We also recognize that, just as the serpent was lifted up for the Israelites to look upon, Your sacrifice was not just a moment in history but an eternal declaration of love. Reinforce our faith in this truth, Father. When doubts arise and when the shadows of this world try to overshadow our belief, let the light of Your promises shine through. Help us to remember that there is power in simply believing in You, and that through faith, we have victory over sin and death.
Lord, let our lives be a reflection of the gratitude we feel for Your sacrifice. We pray that our actions, decisions, and words would align with the message of the eternal life we have received. Teach us to live as redeemed people, filled with joy, hope, and the peace that surpasses all understanding. May we be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and may we walk daily in the assurance of Your love and grace.
As we lift our prayers to You today, may we hold onto the blessed assurance that in You, Lord Jesus, we have eternal life. We claim this promise not just for ourselves but for all who will believe. We thank You, Lord, for the hope that does not disappoint and for the eternal life that awaits each of us who believe in Your name.
We offer this prayer in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
