A Prayer for Divine Hospitality and Guidance on Our Journey
“And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.” — Judges 19:18
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, humbly acknowledging Your infinite wisdom and grace. We gather in Your presence, united by the desire for guidance and comfort as we traverse the paths set before us, just as the Levite journeying from Bethlehem, as captured in Judges 19:18, stated: "And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house."
Lord, we reflect on the Levite’s loneliness on his way to the house of the LORD, feeling the weight of being unwelcomed and unreceived. We can resonate with his plea, recognizing that there are times in our lives when we feel like strangers in a foreign land, searching for shelter, acceptance, and love. We thank You, God, for reminding us through this scripture that life’s journey often brings us to places where we don’t belong, where kindness may be scarce, but where you are our ultimate comforter.
Father, we pray that as we navigate our own lives, we may continually seek Your house—the place of refuge, solace, and divine connection. Help us to remember that, just as the Levite sought a place to rest, we, too, long for the warmth of Your embrace and the fellowship of Your people. In times when others may turn away or fail to offer hospitality, let us never forget that You always welcome us with open arms. Teach us, Lord, how to create spaces of acceptance and warmth for others, so that no one may feel alone or unwelcome when they seek solace in our presence.
In our search for belonging and connection, guide us to be the hands and feet of Christ, spreading love and inclusiveness wherever we go. Equip us to offer the kindness and hospitality that the world often lacks. May our homes be havens of rest, our communities bastions of love, and our hearts overflowing with compassion, just as You have shown compassion to us. Let us extend the grace we have received, creating an atmosphere where all feel safe and valued.
Oh Lord, help us to remain vigilant and aware of those around us, especially those who, like the Levite, may travel through life feeling unacknowledged. Instill within us the courage to reach out, to offer a helping hand, and to invite others into the warmth of our fellowship. May we always be mindful of how profound our small acts of kindness can be, changing a life with a single gesture or word.
We also pray for the places we journey to, that we find and seek opportunities to encounter Your spirit in every interaction and situation. Guide our footsteps, Lord, as we move through life’s challenges—wherever we are headed, may it always be toward the house of the LORD, where we can experience Your love and reaffirm our commitment to You.
And as we go, remind us of our need to receive Your grace daily, as well as the importance of sharing that grace with others. Let our steps be guided by Your light, and let our paths intersect with those who are on a journey much like ours. May we always find refuge in You, and may others find refuge in us.
In Your Holy Name, we pray,
Amen.
