A Prayer for Divine Justice and Restoration
"Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?" - Judges 5:30

O Sovereign Lord, the Almighty and Everlasting God, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and understanding as we reflect on the words of Judges 5:30, which reads, "Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?"
O Lord, we recognize that this passage speaks of triumphal celebrations but also evokes the realities of strife and battle. It recalls to our minds the struggles that our forefathers faced, when they were oppressed by wicked rulers and unfailing foes. Just as Sisera fell before the might of Your chosen people, and the spoils of war were claimed by the victors, we too look to the present, where battles for justice and righteousness persist in our world today.
Heavenly Father, we ponder the words that remind us of the distribution of spoils—how the victors, in their time of glory, divided gifts among themselves. But even more so, let us not overlook the deeper message of Your justice. We ask that You help us to remember that with triumph comes responsibility. With every blessing we receive, may we share it with those who are less fortunate, those who mourn, and those who stand in need of help. Stir in us a compassionate heart, one that desires to uplift the lowly, and to bring healing to those battered by life's battles.
Lord, just as Sisera's downfall heralded a new dawn for Your people, we pray for those who are trapped under the weight of injustice in our own time. We desire to see an end to oppression, to witness an outpouring of grace in the communities that are divided by strife. Help us to be instruments of Your peace, that in our lives we may equally distribute the gifts—we have received with grace—to those who are downtrodden, broken-hearted, or struggling amidst trials.
We implore You, Father, to open our eyes to the needs around us. Give us a vision that moves beyond our own gatherings and celebrations, and leads us to reach out to the world in empathetic love. Just as the Israelites glorified You for the victories won, may our lives too be a testament of Your mercy, radiating Your light into every dark corner of our society.
As we reflect on the imagery of diverse colours of needlework in the spoils, allow us to celebrate diversity in our communities and recognize the beauty of every thread that weaves together the fabric of our lives. Help us to move away from tendencies of isolation and division, to forge meaningful relationships that honour our differences while emphasizing our shared humanity. Let each gift—be it material or spiritual—be a reflection of the love You poured out unto us.
Lord, we ask for guidance in our own battles. Help us to fight not against flesh and blood, but against the darkness of ignorance, hatred, and despair. Empower us, Lord, to carry the banner of Your love into every arena we enter so that as we face our own Sisera moments, we may trust in Your strength and guidance.
O God of Justice, in this diverse world, help us to answer Your call to serve, not only in sharing our own spoils, but also in standing for truth and righteousness. May our hearts resonate with Your heart and our actions reflect Your compassionate nature, so that we may become a true family of God’s creation, united in purpose and love.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our cornerstone and example of justice, we pray. Amen.
