An Offering of Faith like Gideon’s
“And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.” — Judges 6:19
O Lord God of Heaven and Earth, Sovereign Creator of the universe, I humbly come before You today, inspired by the act of faith exhibited by Your servant Gideon, as recorded in Judges 6:19. "And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it." Lord, I recognize that in this simple yet profound act, Gideon did not just prepare a meal; he prepared an offering, a testament of his faith, his commitment, and his desire to commune with You.
He taught us that offerings are not merely about the material things we bring but rather the spirit in which we present them. I pray that I, too, would have the heart to offer You my best, to bring forth my gifts, talents, efforts, and resources, as a fragrant sacrifice pleasing to Your heart. May my life be an altar, where every thought, word, and deed is an offering for You.
O Heavenly Father, I confess that there are times when I feel inadequate, just as Gideon must have felt when he sought to answer Your call. Help me to remember that You do not call the equipped, but You equip the called. Just as Gideon went in to prepare an offering, grant me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and to trust You wholeheartedly. Let my faith rise as I step into the task You have laid before me, knowing full well that Your power works best in my weakness.
Dear God, as I reflect on the elements of Gideon’s offering – the kid, the unleavened cakes, the broth – I am reminded of the significance of each part. The kid represents the willingness to give up what is valuable, the unleavened cakes signify purity and sincerity, and the broth symbolizes the essence of nourishment that can only come from You. Lord, let my offerings be pure and untainted by worldly desires.
I pray, Lord, that just as Gideon presented his offering under the oak, I would find my own sacred spaces where I can lay my heart before You. Whether it is in my quiet time of prayer, in my service to others, or in the way I steward my resources, help me to always present my offerings to You. Teach me to cultivate a heart of gratitude that recognizes every good gift and perfect blessing comes from You and thus deserves to be shared in kindness and love.
Help me to understand that true worship involves sacrifice, and that my commitment to You might sometimes require me to lay down parts of my life that draw me away from You. As I surrender my plans, desires, and ambitions, make me receptive to Your divine guidance. Let me be willing to go deeper, to offer more, and to trust that nothing I give in Your name is ever wasted.
We live in a world overwhelmed with distractions, but I ask that You help me to focus on what matters most – my relationship with You. Let my desires align with Yours, and help me to seek first the Kingdom of God. I desire to be strong and courageous, like Gideon, fulfilling the calling You have placed upon my life.
Finally, Lord, I thank You for the ultimate offering made in love through Your son, Jesus Christ. Help me to continually offer myself in response to this incredible gift of grace and redemption. In every moment and in every offering, may I serve and honor You.
