A Prayer for Purity and Discernment: Lessons from Leviticus 11:31
"These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even." - Leviticus 11:31

O Heavenly Father,
In the quiet of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and a spirit yearning for Your wisdom. As I reflect upon the words penned in Leviticus 11:31, where it is declared, "These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even," I am reminded of Your divine call to holiness and the importance of spiritual discernment in my life.
Lord, You are the Creator of all and in Your infinite wisdom, You have established boundaries and guidelines that lead Your people towards a life of purity. Help me to understand that these ancient commands, while specific in context, carry a timeless truth about the nature of holiness and the importance of remaining set apart for You. Just as certain creatures were deemed unclean in the Old Testament, there are spiritual implications today of the things I allow into my life. May I be mindful of what I engage with, what I consume, and whom I surround myself with, that I may remain pleasing to You.
Father, I beseech You to grant me the discerning spirit of admonition. Open my eyes to see what is truly around me; allow me to recognize the creeping influences in my life that lead me away from You. Help me to make wise decisions, purging my heart and mind of anything that might render me unclean. Teach me to touch not the dead things of this world—those habits and lifestyles that oppose Your will and diminish my spiritual vitality.
Lord, I recognize my human frailty. There are times I stumble and touch that which is unclean, whether it be through troubling relationships, harmful distractions, or ungodly desires. In those moments, may I remember the admonition of Your Word and the associated consequences of my actions. I confess my sins and seek Your forgiveness, for I do not wish to dwell in uncleanness. Cleanse my heart, Lord, that I may have fellowship with You and walk in Your light.
Help me to embrace the concept of being unclean in the eyes of the world, yet justified in Your sight. May I learn to cherish the freedom and purity that comes from living according to Your ways, rather than succumbing to societal norms that urge compromise. Embolden me to share my convictions with grace, so that I may help others discern the creeping uncleanness that may ensnare them as well.
As I journey through life, there may be seasons where I feel isolated due to my dedication to purity. Remind me that in my dedication to You, I am not alone; for there dwells a community of believers who share this commitment. May I seek out fellowship that encourages righteousness and accountability in a world that often celebrates moral ambiguity.
And when the day is long and weariness seeps into my bones, remind me of the sacrificial love of Jesus, who cleanses me from all sin. When I feel the weight of my past or the grime of this world clinging to me, may I always turn to Him who is my refuge. I have been called to live in Your grace, and it is through Your grace that I find strength to rise again and pursue the path of holiness.
Lord, I commit my journey into Your hands. Teach me daily, through Your Word, and guide me by Your Spirit, that I may grow in my understanding and application of Your teachings. Let every choice reflect my desire to honor You, leading a life set apart for Your glory.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, I pray,
Amen.
