A Prayer for Unending Forgiveness and Grace
"And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." - Luke 17:4

O Mighty and Everlasting God,
As I come before You today, I am humbled by Your infinite mercy and love. I reflect on the words of Your Son, Jesus, as recorded in the Gospel of Luke 17:4, where He teaches us of the profound commandment of forgiveness: "And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him."
Lord, it is with a heart yearning for purity that I approach You, acknowledging the difficulties I often face in forgiving those who have wronged me. You understand my struggles, my human nature filled with pride and resentment, and yet You call me to emulate your divine forgiveness. Help me, O Lord, to grasp the weight of this commandment, to let it penetrate deeply into my heart, and to live it out faithfully in my daily life.
Heavenly Father, I confess that the task of forgiving is not always easy. Sometimes, the pain from being hurt feels so deep that it clouds my perception and hardens my heart. I seek Your strength to overcome these barriers. Teach me that forgiveness is not merely a feeling but an act of will arising from a heart transformed by Your love.
As I consider those who have trespassed against me, I ask for clarity. Show me the depths of pain that I harbor, the grudges I cling to, and the bitterness that poisons my spirit. Help me to lay these burdens at Your feet, for You have said that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Remind me that in forgiveness, I am not condoning wrongdoing but choosing to release the hold that anger has over me.
Father, I recognize that forgiving others is a reflection of the forgiveness You have freely given me through Christ Jesus. You, O Lord, bore the weight of my sin and transgressions; You extended grace when I fell short of Your glory. May the enormity of Your love compel me to mirror that forgiveness towards others, even those who wrong me repeatedly. Strengthen my resolve to follow the example set by Jesus, to forgive not just once but multiple times, free from resentment and bitterness.
As I pray for the ability to forgive others, I also cry out for courage to forgive myself. Sometimes, I find it hard to accept Your grace fully, believing that my past mistakes cannot be washed away or forgotten. Yet, I cling to the truth that Your love covers a multitude of sins. Remind me through Your Spirit that in Christ, I am a new creation; the old has passed away, and I am made whole again.
O Lord, as I practice forgiveness, may my heart be opened to reconciliation. I pray for the relationships in my life that have been strained by unforgiveness. Create a spirit of peace and understanding among us, allowing wounds to heal. Help me to approach others with love and a willingness to walk in forgiveness, even when it feels uncomfortable.
Lastly, I pray for those who may not understand the grace of forgiveness. May Your Holy Spirit work in their hearts, granting them the gift of repentance and the desire to seek reconciliation. Use me as an instrument of Your peace in their lives, that through my actions, they may come to know the beauty of Your forgiveness as well.
Thank You, Lord, for the power of forgiveness. May I never tire of extending it, just as I have received it from You. Let my life be a testament of grace, reflecting Your love and mercy in a world that so desperately needs it. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray and ask these things. Amen.
