A Childlike Prayer for the Kingdom of God
"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein." - Luke 18:16-17

O Heavenly Father,
With grateful hearts, we approach Your throne of grace, inspired by the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as recorded in Luke 18:16-17. It is in this sacred moment that we reflect upon the profound simplicity and purity that is found in children, the very essence that You desire us to embody as we seek Your kingdom.
"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein." What a profound revelation this is, O Lord, that the kingdom of God is not just reserved for the wise or the learned, but that it is open to those who come with the innocence and trust of a child.
Father, we thank You for inviting the children to come to You, for showing us that their place in Your heart is secure and cherished. In a world that so often overlooks the young and vulnerable, we stand amazed at Your infinite wisdom which values humility, simplicity, and faith. We plead for Your grace today to nurture a spirit of childlikeness within us—a spirit that is untainted by pride and skepticism, yet ripe with wonder and anticipation of Your goodness.
Help us, Lord, to cast aside our worldly wisdom and the burdens that weigh heavy on our hearts and minds. Remind us to come before You with the unpretentiousness of a child, trusting You completely, knowing well that You are our loving Father who desires to bless and care for us. May we learn to approach our relationship with You without pretense—without the need to understand every mystery and doctrine—and instead to simply rest in Your presence and trust in your unfailing love.
As we reflect on what it means to receive Your kingdom like a little child, we ask for the gift of humility. Enable us to recognize our own limitations and need for Your guidance. Let us be willing to admit our need for help when we stumble, much like a child takes hold of their parent's hand for support and care. Teach us to forsake our reservations and fears and to embrace the vulnerability that comes with faith. May we be bold enough to ask for what we need in Your kingdom, and to rest assured that You hear our cries and meet our needs in accordance with Your perfect will.
Lord, sow within our hearts a spirit of joy and wonder, much like that which children display. Let us not lose sight of the joys of faith that come from seeing the world through the eyes of innocence. May we find delight in Your creation, appreciate the simple gifts—like love, kindness, and the laughter of a child—and remember that these things matter most in Your kingdom.
In our pursuit of worldly success and accolades, let us not grow weary or distracted from the truth that our greatest achievement lies in being Your humble servants. As we navigate the complexities of life, help us to remain open-hearted and gentle, reflecting the love of Christ to those around us. May our actions and words invite others to seek You with the same fervor and delight.
Father, we also lift up the children in our lives—the innocent beings who bear the image of You so beautifully. May we protect and cherish them, guiding them toward You as they journey into this world filled with both wonder and trials. Show us how to nurture their faith, to celebrate their questions, and to encourage their tender spirits.
As we journey together toward the fullness of Your kingdom, remind us often of the importance of childlike faith, that we may not only enter into Your embrace but also lead others to do the same. In the precious name of Jesus, who welcomed the little ones, we pray. Amen.
