A Prayer for Faithful Stewardship

"Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?" - Luke 19:23

"Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?" - Luke 19:{verse.verse_number}

Dear Father in Heaven,

As I come before You in prayer today, I come with a heart that longs to understand the profound lessons found in Your Word. Lord, I reflect on the parable recorded in the Gospel of Luke 19:23, where You ask, "Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?" This verse speaks to my spirit and stirs in me a recognition of the responsibilities and obligations I carry as a steward of all that You have entrusted to me.

Heavenly Father, first and foremost, I thank You for entrusting me with resources—be they time, talent, or treasure. I recognize that everything I possess is a gift from You. In a world that emphasizes ownership, help me to remember that as a follower of Christ, I am merely a caretaker of Your blessings. Teach me to regard all that I have as belonging to You, and instill in me a sense of urgency and responsibility in managing these gifts.

Lord, I confess that there are times when I have not made wise decisions with the blessings You’ve given me. I have sometimes been careless, forgetting the significance of investing my resources for Your Kingdom's advancement. Just as the servant in the parable faced accountability, I know that I, too, will be held responsible for how I choose to utilize all that You’ve provided. Refine my heart and motivations so that my choices reflect a desire to glorify You, not merely self-interest.

I ask that You grant me the wisdom to understand how to effectively use my resources to yield a return that honors You. Let me see beyond the immediate gratification of spending or hoarding and inspire me to think Generationally—about the legacy that I am leaving for those who come after me. Help me to evaluate how I invest my time, whether in relationships that uplift and encourage or in activities that simply waste away precious moments.

Father, as I contemplate Your words, I also acknowledge that I live in a culture that often prioritizes selfishness over stewardship. I frequently find myself bombarded by messages that encourage me to consume, acquire, and compete rather than to invest in others and in Your Kingdom. May I be counter-cultural in my approach to life—choosing to invest my resources in ways that yield spiritual fruit, demonstrate love, and promote faith. Help me to find opportunities to sow into the lives of the needy, to support missions that spread Your Gospel, and to build relationships that reflect Your love.

Lord, I pray for a heart that is eager to serve, rather than one content to stand idly by. Just as You required accountability from the servant, let that same sense of responsibility permeate my life. When You return, I long to hear the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." May I live each day with a true understanding that my time on earth is fleeting, and I must work while it is day.

As I consider the meaning of usury, I am reminded that I am called to grow what You have given me. Teach me to invest into Your Kingdom—to sow generously. May the fruit of my labor and the outcomes of my efforts glorify You and serve the purpose of drawing others closer to Your heart.

In all things, Lord, let me embrace a stewardship mentality. I surrender my desires, my plans, and my resources to You. Enable me to be a vessel through which Your light shines brightly, investing in ways that are pleasing in Your sight. Thank You for entrusting me with so much; may I be found faithful when You require an account.

In the matchless name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
