A Prayer for Ascending to Our Purpose

"¶ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem." - Luke 19:28

"¶ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem." - Luke 19:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, Lord, I am moved by the profound truth of Your Word, particularly the powerful moment captured in Luke 19:28, "And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem." This verse encapsulates not only the physical journey of Your Son, Jesus Christ but also the spiritual journey that we all are called to undertake—an ascent toward our purpose, our calling, and ultimately, toward You.

Lord, I thank You for the example set before us by Jesus. In His willingness to ascend to Jerusalem, we see obedience in action. Grant me the strength and courage to follow in His footsteps, to obey the path You have laid out for me, even when the journey seems daunting. Each step of the way, I am reminded that there is purpose in every moment, and I ask that Your light guide my path so that I may ascend toward the life You have ordained for me.

As I reflect on this verse, I am reminded of the weight of the journey that lay ahead of Christ as He approached Jerusalem. He knew the trials, the mockery, the pain, and ultimately, the sacrifice that awaited Him. Yet, He did not turn back. Lord, help me to be steadfast in my purpose as well, even when the road grows rough or when I feel inadequate. Remind me that I am never alone on this journey; You walk beside me, instilling in me the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Father, I also marvel at the significance of Jerusalem—not only as a physical city but as a symbol of the promised destination that all believers aspire to reach. In my walk of faith, may my heart be aligned with Your will so that I can ascend to my spiritual Jerusalem, a place where I find rest, renewal, and ultimate communion with You. Help me to recognize that the journey itself is part of the ascension, and that each trial I face can lead me closer to my purpose if I keep my eyes fixed upon You.

Lord, I pray for the humility to seek You before I embark on my daily endeavors. Just as Jesus communicated with Your Spirit before His journey, help me to cultivate a prayerful heart. May I seek Your guidance in all things, big and small, and may my decisions echo Your will. When distractions arise, remind me to pause and listen to Your voice, the gentle nudge that brings me back to the course You have charted for my life.

As I go forth from this moment, I recognize the importance of preparation in our ascent. Equip me with the armor of faith, the shield against doubt, and the sword of your Word so that I may face each day with resilience and grace. Help me to fully yield to Your Spirit who empowers me to pursue the good works that You have prepared for me.

Let my ascent not be a solitary journey. May I encourage those around me to embark on their paths with the same determination. Open my eyes to see those who are struggling, who feel lost in their own journeys. Instill in me a heart of compassion and a desire to serve, so that together we can lift each other up, guiding one another toward the eternal horizon of Your kingdom.

Holy Father, as I conclude this prayer, I ask that You strengthen my resolve—and that of all who seek You. Help us to remember the words of Your Son as He ascended to Jerusalem, that He did so with purpose, determination, and love. May I embrace this same spirit in all my endeavors. In Jesus' precious name, I pray.

Amen.

Luke 19:28-40 - "After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”"
