A Prayer of Praise for the King of Glory

"After Jesus had said this, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him. And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." - Luke 19:28-40

O Heavenly Father,

With hearts filled with reverence, we come before You today, inspired by the sacred words of Luke 19:28-40, where our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. As we read of His journey, we can't help but marvel at Your divine orchestration. As Jesus ascended the Mount of Olives, You revealed the depth of Your love and grace through the events that unfolded that day.

Lord, we acknowledge the significance of this moment in history. After all that Jesus proclaimed and performed, He was hailed as the King. As He approached Jerusalem, riding on a colt that had never been ridden, we see the fulfillment of prophecy and the humility of our Savior. We thank You for sending Your Son to bring salvation, not through a chariot of power but upon a humble animal, symbolizing peace and humility.

As we meditate upon the act of sending His disciples to retrieve the colt, we are reminded of Your urgency in spreading the message of salvation. How often do we find ourselves hesitant in answering Your call, O Lord? May we learn from the disciples’ obedience. They went forth, loosing the colt as instructed, and they did not waver in their faith despite the questions posed by the owners.

Help us, Father, to embrace a spirit of obedience like these faithful disciples. Let us not question Your commands or hesitate to bear witness to You in our own lives. We pray for courage to proclaim, as they did, that “The Lord hath need of” our gifts, our talents, our time, and our actions. Strengthen us to embark upon the tasks You set before us, trusting in Your perfect plan and provision.

**Holy Spirit**, fill us with the praise that erupted as Jesus drew near. We envision the multitude of disciples rejoicing and praising God with loud voices. How beautiful it is to celebrate You with unrestrained joy! May our lives be a reflection of this jubilant worship. Teach us to lift our hands in praise, to sing throatily, to share the blessings You have poured out upon us, and to test our limits in glorifying Your name.

As the crowd declared, "Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest," we too join this chorus of praises. Jesus, we recognize You as our King. We thank You for the peace You bring to our hearts amidst the storms of life. May we always remember to lay our garments down before You, surrendering all that we have in acknowledgement of Your kingship over our lives. Let us not treat You like a figure of the past; let us honor You in the present with our actions and attitudes.

Father, we acknowledge the pushback that the disciples faced from the Pharisees, who sought to silence their worship. In a world that often tries to quiet our praise, grant us the wisdom and boldness to stand firm in our testimony of Your greatness. Teach us that even if we remain silent, the very stones would cry out Your glory! Awaken our souls to understand that we are called to be vessels of praise, to proclaim Your greatness boldly, and to honor You without reservation.

As we come into this moment of prayer, we invite You, Lord, into our hearts, homes, and communities. May our lives reflect the joyous entering of our humble King. Help us spread the Good News to those around us, allowing others to witness the splendor and truth of Your love.

In the name of Jesus, who rode humbly into Jerusalem, knowing the path ahead, we pray. Amen.

Luke 19:28-40 - "After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”"
