A Prayer for Divine Empowerment
"¶ And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." - Luke 24:49

O Sovereign Lord,
I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and reflection, seeking to understand the depth of Your promises and the power that You have bestowed upon Your children. Today, I meditate on the words of our Savior given in Luke 24:49, which says, "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."
Lord God, I thank You for the assurance that You have not left us powerless in this world. You have made a promise – a promise of the Holy Spirit, a promise that envelops us in Your divine presence and provides us with the strength and comfort we need. I recognize that this promise was not just for the disciples at that time but extends to all who follow You with sincere hearts, including myself.
As I meditate on the call to "tarry" in the city, I am reminded of the importance of patience. In our fast-paced world, waiting is often viewed as a sign of weakness or a waste of time. Yet, You call us to tarry, to remain steadfast in our efforts, and to seek Your face fervently before we move forward with our endeavors. Help me, Heavenly Father, to embrace the stillness and the pause in my life. Teach me the virtue of waiting, knowing that You are preparing me for what lies ahead. In my waiting, I ask that You fill my heart with hope and expectation for the promise You have spoken.
As I wait in Jerusalem, figuratively speaking, grant me the clarity of spirit to discern Your guidance in my life. Let the city of my heart be a place of refuge where Your words echo loudly, reminding me to trust in Your timing. Just as the disciples awaited the Coming of the Holy Spirit, let me await the empowerment that comes from heaven. May my heart be open and ready to receive, fully aware of the transformative grace that You extend to all who earnestly seek You.
Lord, I pray for an endowment of the power from above. The power that breaks chains, heals the brokenhearted, and sets the captives free. It is this power that allows me to walk steadfastly in Your ways and to fulfill the calling that You have placed upon my life. I ask that Your Holy Spirit ignite a fire within me, one that fuels my passion for ministry, compassion for others, and a relentless pursuit of truth. Let that power flow through me as I serve my loved ones and my community, being a beacon of light in times of darkness.
In situations where I feel weak or unable, remind me that it is in my inability where Your strength is revealed. I am human, frail and vulnerable, yet in my weaknesses, Your power shines brighter. Equip me with the gifts of Your Spirit – wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, discernment, speaking in different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:8-10) – that I may be empowered to carry out Your great commission.
Father, as I meditate on the promise of Your power, I also pray that I may share this good news with others. Empower me not just for my own journey, but let me be a vessel through which Your love and power flow. May my life bear witness to Your faithfulness, enticing others to seek You and to welcome Your transformative presence into their lives.
Finally, I surrender my fears to You and trust that Your promise will sustain me through any trials that may come. I know that I am called to be a conduit of Your grace and strength, and so I ask for courage when facing uncertainty and peace in moments of doubt. Let Your power be made perfect in my weakness, for it is in this union that I find my true identity in You.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray,
Amen.
