O Gracious and Eternal Lord,
As we gather our hearts before You this day, we come with a spirit of humility, reflecting on the profound truth of Your Word. Lord God, we acknowledge that You have authority over all, and that Your Word reigns supreme. Forgive us, Lord, if we have ever found ourselves in a place of spiritual poverty, where we think we can build our lives upon our own wisdom and strength, detaching ourselves from the necessary foundation of Your guidance.
Help us, O Lord, to discern our true state before You. If pride has clouded our vision, reveal it to us. If we have sought to rebuild the desolate places of our souls without Your presence, grant us the humility to stop, to seek You, and to understand our dependence on Your grace.
In this season of reflection, we sincerely desire to invite Your omnipotent hand into our lives. We do not want to be like Edom, who believed they could stand against the divine judgment and restore what was lost while remaining in opposition to Your ways. Instead, may we, Your people, embrace our brokenness as a divine invitation to come to You for healing and restoration that only You can provide.
Lord, we ask for Your Spirit to guide us to the desolate places within our lives—whether they be in our hearts, our relationships, our communities, or even our nations. Show us the areas where we have built walls but not a dwelling place for Your love and truth. Help us not to settle for a semblance of stability when we could experience the fullness of life that is rooted in You.
God of restoration, as it is said in Your word, while the people of Edom may have declared their intention to "build," we know that unless You are in that building, it will forfeit its purpose and meaning. We aspire not only to build but to build according to Your blueprint—the Gospel of Christ. We aspire to take part in establishing Your kingdom, which cannot be shaken.
In light of Your promise, Lord, remind us that rebuilding does not always mean physical structures but encompasses the deep, spiritual renewal You can bring to our lives. Help us to wear humility as a mantle and to seek You in all endeavors, knowing that our labor is in vain unless it is founded upon Your truth and integrity.
As we lay down our ambitions, we submit ourselves to Your will. Help us to become instruments of Your peace, co-laborers in the work that has eternal significance.
O God, by Your mercy, spare us from the condemnation that Edom faced—a people against whom You bore indignation. Let our hearts be tender toward Your leading, engaging in repentance and seeking restoration in our own lives. In so doing, may we experience Your grace and forgiveness and, in turn, reflect that grace to others.
Lord, we place our trust in You, knowing that Your plans are good, and Your love endures.
