Under the Sun of Righteousness: A Prayer for Healing, Reverent Fear, and Holy Growth
"¶ But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall." - Malachi 4:2

Most Holy and Righteous God, we come before You with reverence and awe, honoring Your name above every name. You are the Lord who sees the hidden places of the heart, the Lord who judges with truth and yet delights to show mercy. Teach us what it means to fear Your name—not with the terror of condemnation, but with the deep, trembling honor that bows willingly before Your greatness, Your holiness, and Your faithful love. Purify our motives, correct our wandering desires, and draw us into the kind of worship that is not merely spoken, but lived.
Lord, we cling to Your promise in Malachi 4:2: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” We receive these words as life to our souls. Let them be more than a verse we recite; let them become a reality we experience by Your grace. For You know our need: the wounds we carry, the weariness that settles in our bones, the memories that still ache, the anxieties that disturb our peace, and the sins that have left scars on our hearts. You know what has been broken in us by our own choices and by the harshness of this world.
Father, according to Your promise, cause “the Sun of righteousness” to arise over us. Let Your light break through every shadow, every lie, every heaviness that has dimmed our hope. Where darkness has lingered in our thinking, shine truth. Where shame has silenced our prayers, shine grace. Where bitterness has taken root, shine forgiveness. Where fear of the future has tightened its grip, shine steadfast assurance. Let the rising of Your righteousness be like the dawn that cannot be stopped, steadily pushing back the night until our hearts are warmed again by Your presence.
And Lord, we ask specifically for what Your Word declares: let there be “healing in his wings.” Bring healing that reaches deeper than symptoms—healing that touches the cause, healing that restores what has been lost, healing that makes us whole. Heal our spiritual blindness and give us clear sight to behold Your goodness. Heal our divided hearts and make us single-minded in devotion. Heal our relationships: mend what pride has fractured, soften what anger has hardened, and restore trust where betrayal has wounded. Heal those who are sick in body; strengthen the weak, steady the trembling, renew the exhausted, and comfort the suffering. Where healing does not come in the way we expect, grant us faith to trust You still, and to know that Your righteousness does not fail.
Lord, make us a people who “go forth.” Deliver us from paralysis of fear, from the habit of shrinking back, from the chains of spiritual passivity. Let Your light not only comfort us, but also commission us. Send us out with clean hands and steady hearts to do what is pleasing in Your sight. Teach us to walk in obedience when it is costly, to speak truth when it is unpopular, to show mercy when it is undeserved, and to pursue holiness when it requires sacrifice.
And as Your Word says, let us “grow up as calves of the stall.” Cause healthy growth in us—steady, nourished, and strong. Feed us with Your Word and make us thrive in Your presence. Grow our faith when circumstances are uncertain. Grow our patience when we would rather rush. Grow our love when we are tempted to withdraw. Grow our courage when opposition rises. Grow our discernment so we may recognize what is of You and refuse what is not. Grow in us the fruit of the Spirit, that our lives may bear witness that we have been under the light of the Sun of righteousness.
Father, keep us humble in the day of blessing, so we do not forget the One who healed us. Keep us dependent on You in the day of strength, so we do not trust in ourselves. Make our lives a testimony that Your name is worthy to be feared and loved. Let our homes, our work, our words, and our private thoughts come under Your righteous light.
We confess that without You we cannot heal ourselves, and without Your rising we remain in darkness. So we wait upon You, we look to You, and we ask You to fulfill what You have spoken. Do it for the honor of Your name, and for the good of Your people. Let the Sun of righteousness arise over us today and every day, with healing in his wings.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
