A Prayer for Unwavering Faith and Open Hearts
"¶ Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen." - Mark 16:14

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, awash in awe at the resurrection of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we reflect on Mark 16:14, where it is written, "Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen," we find ourselves in a moment of deep introspection and humility.
Lord, we acknowledge that the disciples were mere men, fraught with anxiety and doubt after Your crucifixion. Their hearts were heavy with sorrow, and in their moment of despair, they struggled to believe in the miraculous truth that You had risen from the dead. We recognize, Father, that we, too, often find ourselves in the grip of disbelief when the storms of life assail us. Just as the eleven were granted a personal visitation from Christ, we seek a similar encounter with You to renew our faith.
We come to You, Lord, laying bare our own weaknesses. We confess that there are times when our hearts have been hardened by the challenges we face—moments when the very trials we endure cloud our vision and shake our faith in Your promises. Help us, O Lord, to acknowledge these burdens. May we repent of our unbelief and hardness of heart, much like the disciples did in the wake of Your resurrection.
We ask You, Father, to soften our hearts. Grant us the grace to receive Your truths without doubt. Just as You revealed Yourself to the eleven, may we recognize Your presence in our daily lives, in our struggles, and in our victories. Lord, open our hearts to see that faith is not merely the absence of doubt, but a hopeful anticipation of Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your power at work in us.
In this world, it is easy to be overwhelmed by scientific reasoning, skeptical opinions, and the myriad of voices that seek to drown out the truth of Your Word. We pray, Lord, for extraordinary faith—faith that can move mountains, faith that can heal the brokenness within us and the world around us. Teach us, Lord, to hold tightly to the evidence of things unseen, for Your word assures us that blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
We also lift up those around us who may be grappling with their own doubts and hardships—friends, family members, and even strangers who may feel lost and uncertain. Pour out Your Spirit on them, Lord, and help them to see the light of Your resurrection. May our lives reflect Your love and grace, and may we be instruments of peace to those who are doubting.
Lord Jesus, we thank You for the incredible sacrifice You made and for conquering death, that we might have eternal life. May we never take for granted the redemption we have in You. In times of weakness, remind us of Your words, your promises, and your unconditional love.
As we come together, sitting at the table of Your grace, make our hearts tender and our spirits alive. Let us live in such a way that our faith affirms the reality of Your resurrection every day. May each of us leave the table of despair and sit at the feast of faith, proclaiming Your resurrection with courage and boldness to the world around us.
We pray, dear Lord, for an enduring faith that transcends understanding, for open hearts that embrace Your truth, and for an outpouring of love that compels us to share the good news, as the eleven were called to do. Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray,
Amen.
