A Prayer for the Innocence and Acceptance of Children

"And then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 19:13-14

"And then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 19:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts that are filled with gratitude for the precious gift of children. We are reminded of the words of Your Son in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 19, verses 13 and 14, where it is written, "And then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

Lord, we acknowledge that children are a blessing from You, a testament to Your creative power and love. They embody innocence, joy, and a unique connection to Your kingdom. We seek Your guidance in how we might protect that innocence and nurture their spirits in ways that draw them closer to You. Just as Jesus welcomed the little children, we ask for a heart that mirrors His compassion and openness.

Father, forgive us where we have fallen short, where we have turned our backs on the needs and cries of children. Help us to recognize the beauty and depth in their laughter, the joy in their discoveries, and the lessons they teach us through their untainted perspectives. Lord, help us to see them through Your eyes—not as interruptions, but as vital and cherished expressions of Your love.

We pray that those who are entrusted with the care of children—parents, teachers, and guardians—may be filled with wisdom and clarity. Grant them patience and strength to guide these young lives with grace, kindness, and understanding. May they teach the children about Your love, instilling in them the values of faith, hope, and charity.

As it was in the days of Jesus, we see different forms of rebuke in our society today—rebuke against the vulnerabilities of children, against their right to be heard and seen. We ask that You empower us to be a voice for the voiceless, advocates for those who cannot defend themselves. Strengthen our resolve to stand against injustice and protect the sanctity and dignity of every child.

Lord, we remember that Your kingdom is built on the foundation of childlike faith, humility, and trust. Teach us, O God, to approach You with the same earnestness as a child approaches a loving parent—without pretense or hesitation. Let our hearts be open to Your grace, making us willing participants in the unfolding story of Your kingdom.

In moments that feel overwhelming, remind us that the simplicity of faith can reshape our experiences. Just as You instructed the disciples, may we never hinder any child from coming to You, nor may we ever undervalue their significance within Your design. Let our communities become havens for children—places where they can express themselves freely, receive love abundantly, and experience Your presence palpably.

Furthermore, we lift up children around the world who are suffering, neglected, and oppressed. We intercede for those trapped in dire situations, whether that be poverty, violence, or abandonment. May Your mercy and protective hands cover them, and may we be inspired to take action to help alleviate their suffering. Let our hearts be moved with compassion to serve those who are most in need.

Lord, in our daily lives, remind us to prioritize the well-being of children, to advocate for policies that protect them, and to educate ourselves and others about their needs. May we be instruments of Your peace, living out Your love in tangible ways for children in our families, neighborhoods, and communities.

As we embrace the truth that the kingdom of heaven is prepared for the little ones, may we take our role as protectors and nurturers seriously, cultivating an environment that reflects Your heart.

We thank You, Father, for the gift of children. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus, who welcomed the little ones with love and grace. Amen.
