A Prayer for Faithful Stewardship and Bold Action
"Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." - Matthew 25:24-30

O Lord, our God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, we come before You today with humble hearts, acknowledging Your majesty and sovereignty. As we reflect on the profound words spoken in Matthew 25:24-30, we are reminded of the parable of the talents and the heavy responsibility that comes with the gifts and opportunities You have entrusted to us.
Heavenly Father, we recognize that You are a God of purpose, and that You have equipped each of us with unique talents that are to be used for Your glory and the advancement of Your kingdom. Just as the servant who received one talent approached You with fear and hesitation, there are times we reflect upon our own lives and allow doubts and insecurities to prevent us from acting upon the gifts that You have bestowed upon us. Forgive us, Lord, for these moments of slothfulness and doubt. Help us to realize that we serve not a hard man, but a loving and generous Father, who desires for us to thrive and to bear fruit in abundance.
In the parable, the servant spoke of his fear, saying, "Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man." May we not be blind to the reality of Your goodness and grace. You are not a hard master, but one who showers Your servants with love, guidance, and strength. Help us to have a correct understanding of who You are, casting off any misconceptions that cause us to hold back. Remove the fear and anxiety that paralyze us from taking bold steps in our lives. Instead, instill in us a spirit of courage that witnesses to the greatness of Your character.
Lord, we reflect on the rebuke that the servant received, as You called him "wicked and slothful." Let us not be complacent or apathetic in our service to You. Grant us a passionate urgency to utilize every resource and opportunity effectively. Teach us to put our talents to good use, to invest them wisely, and to share them generously with others. While the world may encourage us to focus on self-preservation and security, remind us of the true satisfaction found in serving others and in contributing to something greater than ourselves.
We know that we are called to be stewards of our time, our talents, and our treasure. Help us to seek ways to invest our gifts, just as You instructed the servant by saying, "Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers." May we take risks for the sake of the Gospel and boldly act in faith, trusting that You will multiply our efforts. Teach us to approach our endeavors with diligence, creativity, and a willingness to step beyond our comfort zones.
Loving Father, as we embrace the calling to be productive and fruitful servants, remind us that there is no shortage of Your provision. You have promised that "For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance." Help us to rest in this promise, trusting that Your resources are limitless and that in giving, we shall receive -- often in ways we could not possibly anticipate.
Finally, we pray against the fear of abandonment, which lingers in our hearts. No longer allow us to be paralyzed by the thought of losing what we have. Instead, grant us the strength to take the first step, knowing that Your love and mercy will always catch us if we fall. May we strive to be faithful stewards of all that You have entrusted to us, for at the end of the day, we seek to hear Your words of affirmation, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Matthew 25:24-30 - "Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 'So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"
