A Prayer for Faithful Stewardship
"His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest, therefore, to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take, therefore, the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." - Matthew 25:26-30

O Lord God of heaven and earth, I bow before You today, seeking wisdom and understanding as I reflect on Your words in Matthew 25:26-30. Your teachings pierce through the veil of complacency and awaken the spirit of diligence within me. Pray that as I delve deep into this passage, my heart may yield to Your instruction, and my life may align with Your divine purpose.
‘His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant…’ Lord, I do not want to be labeled as wicked or slothful. I come before You, recognizing my shortcomings and the times I have buried my talents instead of investing them for Your kingdom. Forgive me for my fears and hesitations that have kept me from stepping out in faith. How often I have allowed the whispers of doubt to drown out the calling of Your Spirit, leading me to inaction instead of fruitful service. Help me to understand that my gifts, big or small, are entrusted to me by You, and it is my responsibility to use them wisely.
Father, in this world that often glorifies laziness and mediocrity, instill within me a robust desire to please You through my endeavors. May I no longer view my talents as burdens, but as opportunities to glorify Your name and further Your work. Your word reminds me, ‘Thou oughtest, therefore, to have put my money to the exchangers…’ Teach me to be proactive with the resources and skills You have given me. Move my heart to invest in the lives of others, to produce fruit that lasts, and to multiply what You have placed in my care. May my offerings be pleasing unto You, O God, a sweet fragrance rising unto Your throne.
‘For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance...’ Lord, I pray for an abundance not measured by the riches of this world but the treasures of heaven. Help me to focus on the spiritual things that yield eternal rewards—love, kindness, faith, and service. In a society that equates success with wealth and power, grant me the revelation that true abundance comes from a heart that is generous and obedient. I desire to be a vessel of Your grace, sharing generously from the overflow of Your love in my life.
Moreover, Lord, as I contemplate the consequences of neglect, ‘…from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.’ Let not the fear of loss paralyze me. Instead, empower me by Your Spirit to engage in acts that reflect Your generosity. Allow me to risk it all for the sake of the Gospel—because in doing so, I do not lose but gain a reward far beyond what I could imagine. Do not allow me to cling onto false security, but grant me courage to step into the unknown when You call.
And finally, as the scripture warns of consequences—‘…cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness…’—let me never take lightly the call to be fruitful. May the reality of ‘weeping and gnashing of teeth’ instill within me a holy fear, motivating me to shun idleness and complacency, and embrace the charge of stewardship with zeal. I long to hear those cherished words, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant.’
So I kneel before You today, asking for guidance and strength to be a faithful steward in all matters of life. Grant me clarity to see Your gifts in myself and others, the wisdom to value them appropriately, and the resolve to act faithfully at all times. I surrender my fears and doubts, trusting that Your grace is sufficient for me. In Jesus's mighty name, I pray, Amen.

Matthew 25:26-30 - "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 'So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"
