"There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat." - Matthew 26:7

O Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe, as we gather in humble reverence before You, we reflect on the beautiful act of love and devotion described in Matthew 26:7—"There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat." Lord, I am moved by this remarkable moment in scripture, and I come before You today to pour out my heart in prayer, just as the woman poured out her precious ointment upon our Lord.

Gracious God, this woman, whose name we do not know, approached Jesus with a spirit of surrender. She brought with her an alabaster box, a vessel of great value, filled with precious ointment, symbolic of her deepest affections. In her act of worship, she demonstrated her recognition of Jesus’ worth and her willingness to surrender everything she held dear. Lord, help me to grasp the significance of this gesture in my own life. May I learn to bring before You my own alabaster box, filled with the treasures of my heart, my ambitions, and my dreams.

Jesus, as You sat at the table with Your disciples, I picture the atmosphere of that room—filled with the aroma of that costly ointment as it was poured upon You. It must have been a profound moment, intermingled with joy and perhaps some dismay from those around You. The disciples, caught in their misunderstanding and judgments, questioned the worthiness of this act. Still, You embraced her worship, affirming her choice to honor You in such an extravagant manner. I ask, O Lord, for the courage to worship You without reservation, free from the judgment of others or the hesitance to hold back.

Heavenly Father, let my heart mirror that of the woman who loved deeply and chose to acknowledge the presence of the Savior in her life. Teach me to discern the priceless nature of my relationship with You, so that I too may offer what is most precious. Encourage me to pour out my worries, fears, and burdens, anointing You with my deepest trust and unwavering faith.

As I reflect on the preciousness of that ointment, Lord, it speaks to me about sacrifice and devotion. I discern that what we consider precious is not defined by its monetary value but rather by its value in You. Teach me to offer my ‘ointment’—my time, my talents, and my resources—in service to Your Kingdom. Remind me that true worship is not confined to moments of music or prayer but is found in the daily actions of love, kindness, and service to others.

May Your Spirit guide me to opportunities to bless others in the same way this woman blessed You. Let my life be a vessel, a means by which the love of Christ is poured into the lives around me. Let me not hoard the blessings You have bestowed but freely give as I have freely received, understanding that love is only powerful when it is shared.

Lord, forgive me for the times I have held back my love due to fear or pride. Help me to lay aside my inhibitions and embrace the vulnerability that comes with true devotion. As I pour out my alabaster box before You, I pray it will be a fragrant offering, a sweet aroma rising to Your throne. May it honor You and reflect the gratitude in my heart for all You have done for me.

As I conclude this prayer, I thank You for the example of the woman who taught us that extravagant love is not wasted but revered in the heart of the Savior. I ask for Your grace to love You wholeheartedly, realizing that my worship has intrinsic value in Your eyes. I pray for a heart that yearns to adore You and bring glory to Your name, now and forevermore. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
