A Prayer for Strength and Discernment in the Midst of Opposition

"Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear." - Nehemiah 6:19

"Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear." - Nehemiah 6:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts open and spirits yearning for Your guidance and strength. In the midst of challenges and trials that often surround us, let us recall the lessons brought forth in Nehemiah 6:19, where it says, "Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear." Lord, we acknowledge that as Nehemiah faced opposition, so do we in our daily lives, whether it be through challenges at work, difficult relationships, or battles against fear and doubt.

O Lord, as Nehemiah walked in obedience to Your call to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he faced taunts and treachery. Similarly, I come before You today knowing that I am not immune to the hurtful words and harmful intentions of those who oppose Your purpose in my life. When Tobiah sent letters to instill fear in Nehemiah, it was an attempt to derail his mission. I ask You, Lord, to help me keep my focus on Your truth and the mission You have set before me.

Father, grant me the spirit of courage that Nehemiah exhibited. Let me rise above the distractions and the schemes of the enemy. As I face my own fears that are exacerbated by the words and actions of those around me, I pray for Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to recognize that while others may speak ill, You always speak good. Remind me of the goodness You have placed in me, and may I be a beacon of Your hope and love to those around me.

God, I pray also for discernment. Nehemiah listened to those who spoke truths and good deeds, yet he was wise enough to discern the dangers and fears set before him by Tobiah. Help me recognize the voices that come from You and the ones that attempt to sow discord and fear in my heart. May I be educated in the ways of Your Spirit, that I can distinguish between Your sweet calling and the shouts of anxiety and negativity that pierce my soul.

Lord, I also lift up those who may feel as though they are in situations similar to Nehemiah's, surrounded by voices that provoke fear. May I comfort them with Your word, reminding them that

"You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). Help us to showcase Your character wherever we go, reflecting Your goodness so that several may be encouraged through us.

In the militant whisper of discouragement, remind us, O God, that Your purpose stands above all. Let fear not cloud my vision nor disrupt my devotion, but instead may I stand firm, as Nehemiah did, equipped with Your truth and unwavering faith. When Tobiah's letter arrives in my heart, I pray to write back with Your promises instead.

Father, through all the ups and downs of life, may every blow of opposition become a platform for me to share Your glory. Let the winds of fear and the waves of doubt give way to the peace of Christ which governs my heart. Even as we recount the good deeds and words You have spoken in our lives, may we always respond as Nehemiah did—with steadfast resolve.

In closing, I ask You, Lord, to infuse me with an unwavering spirit to handle the letters sent by the Tobiahs of the world. Give me the shield of faith to deflect every attack that seeks to instill fear. Remind me continually of Your promises and transform every fear into an opportunity to testify of Your greatness.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
