A Prayer for Divine Favor and Protection in Times of Challenge
“And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.” — Numbers 23:7
O Heavenly Father, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the sovereign Lord who knows our hearts and our destinies, I come before You today with reverence and awe, reflecting upon the words of Your servant in Numbers 23:7. In this passage, we hear Balak, the king of Moab, appealing to a prophet to curse Your chosen people, Jacob, and to defy Israel. Lord, even in the context of this story, we are reminded of the challenges that arise when we stand for You, when our identity rests in Your promises.
Lord, I thank You for being a God who is intimately aware of all that transpires in our lives. Just as Balak sought to bring harm to Jacob, the adversary seeks to bring curses upon us today. He commands his minions to whisper doubt in our ears, to sow discord among our families and communities, and to attempt to cloud our vision with fear. But I praise You, Lord, for we remain under Your divine protection, and I stand firm on the assurance that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
Father, I ask that You imbue us with the spirit of resilience and strength, so that when we are confronted by those who wish to see us falter, we may hold steadfast like Thy servant Balaam. Let us rise above the challenges, rise above the moments when we feel like we are being cursed, and instead find ourselves blessed because of Your enduring love. Help us to remember that when the world tries to intimidate us and make us feel small, we belong to You, the Creator of the universe. Empower us to proclaim against our adversaries that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that no harm shall befall us as we walk in alignment with Your wisdom.
Lord, I also come to You to invoke protection over my loved ones and over Your Church. In the same way that You shielded Israel from Balak’s decree, I ask that You surround us with Your divine hedge of protection. Keep us safe from any physical, emotional, or spiritual attacks. Let us remain steadfast in faith, not wavering in our resolve to trust in Your unfailing love and grace, even when we cannot see the way forward.
As we meditate on this scripture, let it serve as a reminder of our identity in You, Lord, as heirs to Your promises. We are not defined by the battles that come against us but by the everlasting victory that comes from being part of Your royal family. Enable us to speak blessings over our surroundings, to be voices of encouragement even when faced with a barrage of negativity.
Guide our hearts, Lord, to respond with grace to those who wish us ill. Like Balaam, who ultimately could not speak anything but the words that You placed in his mouth, let our speech be seasoned with Your wisdom. Let us be known not only as followers of Christ but as ambassadors of peace, love, and hope in tumultuous times. May our actions and words reflect Your character, dispelling darkness and illuminating paths for others to find You.
In all that we encounter, may we be mindful that our battles are not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers. Empower us to fight the good fight of faith, assured that You walk alongside us, leading and guiding us.
I thank You, Lord, for the assurance that, no matter the curses that may come against us, in You we are blessed abundantly. May we carry this truth in our hearts always, living in a manner that glorifies Your name.
