Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and reverence, acknowledging Your sovereignty over all that we possess and all that we achieve. As we meditate on the words from Numbers 31:26, "Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation," we realize the importance of gathering and recognizing what You have entrusted to us.

Lord, we thank You for the blessings You have poured into our lives. Just as the children of Israel were called to take account of the spoils they received, we too must reflect on the abundance You have granted. Help us to approach this reflection not with a spirit of greed but with a heart of gratitude. Teach us that every good and perfect gift comes from You, the Father of lights, and let us never take for granted the provision You so generously bestow.

As we take stock of our own lives, we are reminded that the prey in this verse symbolizes the victories and blessings we acquire on our journey. We humbly ask, oh Lord, for Your guidance to assess these blessings wisely. Grant us the discernment to understand what we have received and how best to utilize these gifts for Your glory.

Father, we acknowledge the role of Eleazar the priest in this process. Just as he was instructed to assist in counting and distributing the prey, let us seek wise counsel and guidance within our faith communities. Surround us with individuals who understand the heart of stewardship and accountability. May we learn to share our blessings with others, ensuring that in our gains, we do not overlook those who are in need.

Lord, we understand that being blessed with material or spiritual gain comes with a responsibility. Help us to remember that as stewards of Your grace, our blessings should not solely serve our own purposes, but rather reflect Your love and provisions to the world around us. Teach us to regard our resources as tools to extend compassion, generosity, and hope to others.

As we recount the blessings in our lives, may we also consider the aspects of our journey that require reflection and repentance. Just as Moses and Eleazar identified the contributions of the warriors and the beastiary, may we identify the victories that may not always seem apparent. Lord, help us understand that our challenges are also a part of the whole. Teach us to appreciate the strength gained through overcoming obstacles and the lessons learned, as they too are gifts from Your loving hand.

Heavenly Father, as we take this moment, we invite You to open our eyes to the fight for justice and truth in our world today. Help us recognize how our actions and decisions impact others. Equip us with the courage to act compliantly and righteously, proclaiming equity and stewardship. Let us count the "prey" we see around us and ensure that it is not only counted in numbers but also in the dignity and lives of others.

Help us to understand that each life, whether it be man or beast, holds value in Your eyes. Instill in us the reverence for all of creation, teaching us that our witness and accountability stretch beyond our immediate community. May we treat Your creations — both human and animal — with the respect they deserve, upholding the sanctity of life in every form.

In closing, dear Lord, as You helped the Israelites in their task, guide us in our own counting. Fill our hearts with joy and responsibility as we take account of what we have and resolve to use our blessings in ways that honor You. Let every decision reflect our commitment to You and Your creation, and may our lives echo the truth of You working through us.

We ask this humbly in the precious name of Jesus, who taught us to live abundantly and generously.
