Prayer for Wisdom and Discretion in Our Actions
"Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly." - Proverbs 13:16

Heavenly Father,
As we gather in Your presence today, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and seeking for Your divine guidance. Your Word reminds us in Proverbs 13:16, "Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly." Lord, I humbly ask for the wisdom and discernment to embody the principle of prudence in all my dealings and interactions.
I recognize that life presents many choices and paths, and I often find myself navigating through confusion, uncertainties, and the challenges of everyday life. I find myself at times overwhelmed by the noise of the world, the pressures to conform, and the distractions that lead me astray. Help me, Father, to be like the prudent man who arms himself with knowledge. I long to gather wisdom from Your Word, from the teachings of Christ, and from the lessons of life experiences that You allow me to encounter.
Lord, I pray that I may always seek Your counsel before I act, allowing the Holy Spirit to fill my mind and Spirit as I consider my decisions. Enable me to lean not on my own understanding but rather trust in Your infinite wisdom, which surpasses all human knowledge. Grant me the discernment to know when to speak and when to listen, when to act and when to remain still. Let me recognize the value of understanding and knowledge, so that I do not foolishly expose my shortcomings, but rather work toward improvement and growth in You.
Father, I humbly ask that You help me to live in such a way that my actions glorify You. May my words be seasoned with grace and my approach be kind and thoughtful, reflecting the wisdom that comes from above. I seek knowledge not just for my own benefit, but also to uplift those around me. Help me to share wisdom like a light set on a hill, illuminating the minds and hearts of others so they too may come to know and trust in Your guidance.
Lord, I am reminded that folly leads to disgrace and heartache. I confess that at times I have acted foolishly—whether in haste, anger, misjudgment, or ignorance. I ask for Your forgiveness for those moments where I have laid bare my folly before others. Teach me to guard my heart and my words, to practice restraint, and to prioritize understanding over conflict. May I learn to appreciate the value of silence over the noise of thoughtlessness.
As I seek to walk in wisdom, unearth within me any areas of my life that may be lacking in prudence. Help me to avoid company with those who embrace folly, and instead surround myself with wise counsel—those who fear You and desire to walk in Your ways. I pray to be both a learner and a teacher, engaging with others diligently in conversations that promote knowledge and understanding.
I also lift up my family, friends, and community, that we may collectively seek wisdom and knowledge in our lives. Let us find strength in unity as we strive not to lay open our follies, but rather build one another up in a spirit of prudence and love.
Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your eternal wisdom and the promise of Your guidance. I commit this prayer to You, trusting that You will lead me toward the path of knowledge and understanding. Let my life reflect the grace of a prudent man, that I may glorify You in all that I do.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
