A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment in Companionship

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” — Proverbs 13:20

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today with a heart that seeks Your wisdom and guidance as I reflect on the truths found in Proverbs 13:20: "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." Lord, I recognize the profound importance of the company I keep and how my associations can shape my character, decisions, and ultimately, my destiny. I humbly ask for Your help to choose my companions wisely and to walk in the company of those who lead me closer to You.

Father, Your Word teaches us that the path of wisdom is intrinsically linked to the company we choose. Help me to discern the difference between those who offer godly counsel, insight, and strength versus those who may lead me astray. Fill my heart with a desire to surround myself with wise individuals who are rooted in Your truth, who uplift and inspire me to grow in faith and understand the complexities of life through Your lens.

Lord, may I always strive to be a person of wisdom myself. Grant me the ability to see beyond the surface and recognize the qualities in others that reflect true wisdom—humility, patience, kindness, and integrity. Help me to form relationships with those who embody these characteristics, so that I may learn from their example, bask in their light, and grow more like You with each passing day.

In moments when I am tempted to associate with those who do not share my values, who may encourage foolishness or immorality, grant me the strength and courage to step back and reassess. Help me to recall Your words, Lord, and understand the peril that often accompanies foolishness. Open my eyes to the realities of how such companionship can lead to destruction, not just in my life but also in the lives of those I love.

Teach me, Father, the importance of influencing my surroundings positively. As Your scripture says, "A good man is known by the company he keeps." May I be intentional in my relationships, striving not only to find wise friends but also to be a wise friend to others. Let my words and actions reflect Your grace and wisdom. I pray that through my companionship, I may sow seeds of faith and encouragement that draw others closer to You.

In the quest for wisdom, Lord, I ask for the Holy Spirit to guide my heart and mind. Illuminate my path as I navigate through networks of relationships both near and far. I desire to honor You with my choices and to build connections that bring glory to Your name. Help me to engage in conversations that inspire growth and lead to greater understanding of Your ways. Let me find joy in the fellowship of believers—those who seek Your Kingdom first and have a profound love for Your Word.

Lord, I acknowledge the reality that not all relationships are destined to last, and some may even lead to harm. Should I find myself entangled in unwise associations, I pray for the wisdom and courage to let go. Help me to trust in Your plan and timing, knowing that You will provide me with companions and mentors who will guide me on the right path.

Thank You, Father, for Your endless grace and mercy. Thank You for the provision of wisdom that is available to all who seek it earnestly. I commit my friendship choices to You, trusting that with You at the center, I will walk with wise men and grow in Your wisdom daily.
