Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I want to pause in reverence, filled with gratitude for the blessings You have bestowed upon me. Your Word in Proverbs 18:23 speaks deeply to my heart: "The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly." Lord, through this verse, You have opened my eyes to the complexities of human nature, social standing, and the power of our words. I seek Your powerful guidance as I reflect on this wisdom, desiring to be more compassionate and understanding in my interactions with others.

Lord, You know the plight of the poor. You understand their struggles, their vulnerability, and their desperation. I ask that You grant me a heart that can empathize with those less fortunate. Help me to remember that every person I encounter is deserving of compassion and respect, regardless of their financial status. May I never respond to the cries of the needy with indifference or disdain. Instead, let my heart respond with kindness and generosity, much like how You have shown relentless mercy and grace in the face of our shortcomings.

Help me, O God, to understand that the poor often speak in humble intreaties, seeking help and understanding in their difficult times. Teach me to listen intently when they reach out for assistance, whether it be in words or actions. Encourage my spirit to respond with genuine willingness to help, just as You are always prepared to help and lift up those who are struggling. Let my words reflect Your love and comfort, dispelling their fears and anxieties with warmth and compassion.

Father, I also ponder the second part of the verse: "but the rich answereth roughly." Lord, I recognize that wealth can sometimes breed callousness, an attitude that may cause one to dismiss the needs of others with harsh words. I pray for those who are in positions of privilege—remind them that their wealth should never be a barrier to empathy, but rather a tool to extend assistance to those in need. May they learn to govern their tongues and use their words to uplift rather than to belittle or scorn.

I ask for Your forgiveness, Lord, for any times I may have, intentionally or unintentionally, embodied the characteristics of the rich answereth roughly. If my words have cut deep into the hearts of others, especially those who are already suffering, forgive me. Help me to recognize that my words carry weight and that they have the power to heal or to harm. I want to be a vessel of Your love, speaking life into every interaction I have with others.

Guide me also to cultivate a spirit of humility, regardless of my own circumstances. May I never forget that our worth does not come from material possessions or social standings, but from being Your beloved child. Help me to live in such a way that reflects Your heart—the heart that cares, that listens, that provides, and that serves.

In closing, I seek Your wisdom as I navigate through conversations and challenges in life. May my voice echo Your principles of love, compassion, and understanding, regardless of the social standings of those around me. Teach me to answer gently, graciously, and with the tender love that can only come from You.

Thank You, Lord, for reminding me of the importance of our words. Let them be filled with grace and compassion as I strive to follow Your example in everything I do. In Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen.
