Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I am reminded of Your Word, which speaks profound wisdom and truth. In Proverbs 21:26, we find the stark contrast between the heart that is greedy and the heart that is generous: "He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not." Lord, I seek to understand and embody the essence of this verse in my life, and I humbly ask for Your guidance in transforming my heart into one that reflects righteous giving.

Lord, You know the nature of our human hearts, how easily we can succumb to the temptations of greed and selfish desires. In a world that often praises ambition and accumulation, it can be so easy to fall into the trap of coveting what others possess, constantly yearning for more, and losing sight of what truly matters. I confess that there have been moments when I have prioritized my desires over others’ needs, moments when I have let greed overshadow my ability to give generously.

Help me, Father, to recognize these tendencies within me. Open my eyes to see that true joy does not lie in the accumulation of treasures but in the sharing of my blessings with those around me. Teach me that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and instill in me a spirit of generosity that mirrors Your own. Your Son, Jesus Christ, exemplified perfect love and was a servant unto all, never withholding compassion, kindness, or resources from those in need. May I aspire to reflect that same spirit of righteousness in my everyday life.

As I meditate on the nature of the righteous, Lord, let the truth of Your Word penetrate my heart deeply. Help me to cultivate a heart that is overflowing with kindness, a heart that recognizes the worth and dignity of every person. Teach me to give freely and without reservation, not just of my material possessions but also of my time and love. May I be the one who listens to the burdens of others, who provides a comforting word, who shares a meal, and who opens my hand and heart to those who are hurting, lonely, or in need.

In this journey, Lord, remove any fear of scarcity from my heart. Help me to trust in Your provision and grace. When I give selflessly, remind me that there is no lack in Your Kingdom. You are the God who supplies all our needs according to Your riches in glory, and when I choose to put others before myself, I am not diminished but enriched in ways I may not see in the moment. Instill in me a confidence that my giving reflects Your character and that I am participating in the work of Your Kingdom.

Father, give me discernment in knowing how best to give. Show me the needs around me—both within my community and beyond—and prompt me to act. Help me to be aware of those who are suffering from injustice, poverty, or despair. Let my heart break for what breaks Yours and give me the courage to respond in faith and action. May the spirit of generosity flow through me, empowering me to give not just out of abundance but even from my own lack, just as the widow with her two mites (Mark 12:42-44) exemplified.

In moments when I feel hesitant or reluctant to share, remind me of Your infinite grace towards me, and may that grace compel me to extend mercy to others. Let my life be a testament to the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a life marked by righteousness and generosity, from freely giving and not withholding.

Thank You, Lord, for this time of prayer and reflection on Your Word. I seek to be transformed by Your Spirit, becoming a person who not only recognizes the dangers of greed but actively chooses to live in alignment with Your righteousness—giving and sparing not. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
