Heavenly Father,

I come before You today with a heart that seeks after Your wisdom and guidance. I give thanks for the gift of Your Word which reveals truths that can shape our lives and protect us from the snares of temptation. As I meditate on Proverbs 23:31, where You instruct us, "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright," I am reminded of the importance of discernment in our choices and the strength we need to adhere to Your will.

Lord, in a world where the allure of substances like wine and other distractions seem to sparkle and hold appeal, I ask for Your discernment to recognize the dangers that lurk within their beauty. Just as the psalmist cried out for wisdom, I too cry out for understanding. Help me to see beyond the attractive exterior and to grasp the reality of what lies beneath. May I always remember that temptation often presents itself in ways that are enticing, yet it can lead to destruction and sorrow.

Father, I acknowledge that it can be easy to dismiss the warnings You have placed in Your Word, yet I desire to honor You with my decisions. As I reflect upon those moments when my strength feels weak, I ask for Your Holy Spirit to rise up within me, providing me counsel during times of trial. When temptation calls my name, empower me to turn my gaze towards Your light rather than the deceptive glitter of the world. Strengthen my resolve to say no—to not even look upon those things that can lead me astray.

Lord, I also pray for those in my life who struggle with the temptation of alcohol and other vices. I intercede for them, asking that You grope their hearts and reveal the truth that leads to freedom. May they find solace, strength, and the courage to confront these temptations and break free from their chains. This burden is heavy, and they need Your guidance to make lasting changes. Help me to be a source of support, encouragement, and love as they navigate their journey away from the allure of addiction.

Gracious God, I understand that it is not just restraint that I seek, but also a filling of something far greater. Replace any desire for fleeting pleasures with an insatiable hunger for Your Holy Spirit. Fill me with joy that comes from a deep connection with You, and let that joy overflow in my life and those around me. Teach me to find delight in spiritual pursuits and in the love and community You provide, rather than seeking satisfaction from substances.

Father, I lift up my prayers for wisdom and clarity when faced with moments of temptation. Let my heart be tuned into Your voice, reminding me of the consequences that my actions can bring. Keep me alert to the ways that temptation can creep in—through social gatherings, through moments of loneliness, or even through moments of stress where I may seek solace. Lord, help me to lean into You instead, knowing that You are my source of comfort and strength.

As I navigate this life, let me be reminded that it is by Your grace that I stand firm. Help me to draw closer to You each day, finding security in Your promises and comfort in Your presence. I ask that You bless my efforts to live a life that reflects Your glory in every decision I make. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.
