A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
"As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly." - Proverbs 26:11

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the profound wisdom found in the words of Proverbs 26:11: "As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly." These words, O Lord, are not just a reflection of human behavior but a stark reminder of the consequences of returning to our old ways, of choosing to disregard the lessons learned in the trials of life.
Lord, I acknowledge that we often fall into patterns of behavior that lead us far away from Your divine path. Just as a dog, in its simplicity, returns to that which once caused it distress and discomfort, I too find that I sometimes return to unwise choices, often ignoring the painful lessons from my past. I ask for Your forgiveness for those moments when I have acted foolishly, for the times I have chosen the comfortable whisper of folly over the clear voice of Your wisdom.
Today, I seek Your guidance, O God. Fill me with wisdom, that I may discern the difference between folly and sound judgment. Help me to see beyond the momentary pleasures of sin and recognize how they may lead to deeper troubles in my life. Teach my heart to value Your truth above all else, for I know that Your paths are ways of peace and not of chaos.
Father, I pray for the strength to resist the temptations that would have me return to my vomit, to the folly that I have overcome by Your grace. When faced with the challenges and choices of life, remind me of the victories You have given me in the past. Help me to stand firm in the truth of who I am in You, a new creation, empowered by the Holy Spirit to make choices that honor You.
Grant me, O Lord, a spirit of discernment, so I may see folly masquerading as wisdom. There are moments when the allure of old habits or harmful relationships may seem enticing, but I know they are not true reflections of the life You desire for me. Shine Your light upon my path, illuminating my steps and guiding me away from the snares of foolishness.
In my prayers, I lift up those who are caught in cycles of foolish behavior. Many around me return to choices that harm them, blinded by pride or despair. I ask that You would intervene in their lives as You have in mine. Break the chains that bind them to their folly and open their eyes to the truth of Your love and redemption. May they recognize the cycle of returning to their vomit and instead seek the fresh air and new life that You offer.
Lord Jesus, You taught us that the truth sets us free. Help all of us to embrace truth – not only for ourselves but also for those we care about who are struggling. May they find the courage to break free from the cycles of sin and folly. Let me be a source of encouragement and support, helping to guide them towards Your wisdom rather than indulging them in their mistakes.
I earnestly ask for Your strength, dear Lord, to turn away from folly—whether it lurks in my own heart or attempts to distract those around me. Remind me constantly that true wisdom begins with a fear of the Lord, a deep and abiding respect for You and Your commandments.
As I navigate this journey of life, may I remain steadfast in my commitment to wisdom and clarity. In every decision, may I honor You. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, who has freed me from my folly and into Your marvelous light. Amen.
