A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
"A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished." - Proverbs 27:12

Dear Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the wisdom found in Proverbs 27:12 which states, "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished." Lord, I thank You for Your Word that illuminates our understanding and guides us in our daily lives. I seek Your presence as I reflect upon the significance of prudence and foresight.
Father, I ask for a spirit of discernment to rest upon me. Help me to be attentive to the signs around me, to recognize the dangers that may lie ahead. Just as a prudent man can foresee the evil, grant me the ability to perceive the threats in my life and the lives of those I care for. May I not be so consumed with my present comfort that I neglect the foresight needed to protect myself and my family from harm. Open my eyes, Lord, that I may see clearly and make wise decisions that align with Your will.
Lord, I acknowledge that there are moments when I can be simple-minded, quick to dismiss warnings or oblivious to potential threats. Forgive me for times when I have let my guard down, when I have chosen to ignore the signs of danger around me. Teach me to embrace the wisdom that comes from You, so I might not be like the simple who pass on and suffer the consequences of their ignorance.
God, grant me the ability to not only foresee but also to respond accordingly. When evil is approaching, give me courage to hide myself in Your shelter, as Psalm 91 tells us, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Let my refuge be in You, Lord. In You, I find safety. Help me to take shelter in Your Word and rely on Your strength to navigate through the challenges of life.
I pray for the people in my life, Lord. Help them too to seek counsel and wisdom, and to embrace prudence. In our society, it is so easy to dismiss the importance of wise living that is guided by Your principles. May we be a community that seeks Your understanding and encourages one another to be alert. Let our hearts be open to the wisdom that comes from You, that we might work together to guard against the evils that seek to ensnare us.
Father, I also pray for those who are blinded by simplicity. There are so many, both near and far, who walk straight into harm's way, captivated by fleeting pleasures and momentary gains. Instill in them a desire for wisdom and understanding. Create a hunger for Your truth in their hearts, that they might recognize the paths of destruction and choose instead to follow You. May they learn from the consequences of their choices and turn towards Your light.
Additionally, Lord, help me to be a beacon of Your wisdom to others. Let my actions, words, and decisions reflect the foresight that comes from a relationship with You. When I see friends or family moving towards poor choices, grant me the courage to speak truth into their lives, warning them of potential downfall, just as a loving shepherd guides his flock.
Thank You, Lord, for the assurance that we do not have to face the uncertainties of life alone. You are our guide, our protector, and our source of wisdom. Help me to cherish Your Word each day and to become a prudent person who seeks Your will in all things.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray,
Amen.
