A Prayer for Justice and Protection for the Oppressed
"As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people." - Proverbs 28:15

Heavenly Father,
In the mighty name of Jesus, we come before Your throne of grace today, filled with reverence and humility. We gather our hearts and minds in unity, acknowledging Your sovereignty over all creation. Lord, we reflect on the powerful words found in Proverbs 28:15: "As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people." This verse weighs heavily upon our hearts, revealing the severe consequences of wickedness in leadership and its devastating impact on the vulnerable among us.
Father, we recognize that You are the righteous judge, and we beseech You to intervene in the affairs of our world. We see how leaders, who should be protectors and providers, have often become predators—exploiting the weak and trampling upon the rights of those whom You love. Just as a lion roars and a bear ranges through the land, so too do the wicked rulers inflict fear and oppression. We cry out to You for this very reason, seeking Your justice, mercy, and protection for the poor and downtrodden.
Lord, You have always had a tender heart for the afflicted and the needy. In Your Word, You encourage us to care for the least among us, reminding us that whatever we do for them, we do for You (Matthew 25:40). Help us, O Lord, to embody this same compassion in our lives. Stir our hearts to stand up for justice, to speak out against corruption, and to support those who fall victim to the schemes and misdeeds of the wicked. May we be instruments of Your peace, bringing hope where there is despair and light to those enveloped in darkness.
We pray specifically for the leaders of our nations—grant them wisdom, integrity, and humility. Let Your Spirit be present in their decision-making processes, guiding their hearts to govern with fairness and compassion. May they earnestly seek the welfare of all their citizens, especially the marginalized, the oppressed, and the poor. As You raised David to be a shepherd for Your people, we ask that You raise leaders who will protect those in need, who will have a heart to serve rather than to dominate.
Heavenly Father, we plead with You to expose corruption at every level of authority. Shine Your divine light on those who operate in the shadows, misleading and manipulating for personal gain while neglecting their responsibilities to those they rule. Provoke a righteous anger within us as we witness injustice, and stir us into action. Let us not be silent bystanders, but rather a voice for the voiceless, advocating for righteousness and standing firm against tyranny.
We ask for Your divine protection over the impoverished and marginalized. Guard their hearts against despair and hopelessness. Provide them with sustenance, shelter, and kindness through those of us in Your Church, who are called to be Your hands and feet in this world. Encourage them, Father, through small acts of mercy that build faith, reminding them that You see their struggles and that they are not alone.
Lord, we also acknowledge that sometimes we ourselves can be blind to the injustices that unfold around us. Open our eyes to the needs of those suffering in silence, whether in distant lands or right in our own neighborhoods. Make us aware and responsive to opportunities to help, encouraging us to be active participants in Your work of justice.
Lastly, we ask for the strength and courage to stand firm against any types of oppression, both spiritual and physical. May we always reflect the love and righteousness of Christ, fighting for what is right and just, standing boldly against the roaring lions and ranging bears of our time.
In Your mercy, hear our prayer. We thank You and we trust in Your unfailing grace to lead us in the way of righteous action. In Jesus' holy name, we pray,
Amen.
