A Prayer for Generosity and Compassion
"He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse." - Proverbs 28:27

O gracious and loving Father, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, I come before You with a humble heart, deeply aware of Your infinite goodness and mercy. I stand in awe of You, knowing that You have called us to be vessels of Your love and instruments of Your grace in this world.
Your Word in Proverbs 28:27 resonates deeply in my heart: "He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse." Lord, as I meditate on this profound truth, I ask for Your divine guidance and wisdom. Teach me, O Lord, the importance of generosity. Help me to see that by giving to those who are less fortunate, I am serving You and participating in Your divine plan of compassion and care.
Father, I acknowledge that the world often tempts me to turn a blind eye to the plight of the poor and needy. In moments of selfishness, I can become numb to the cries of those who suffer. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have been blind to injustices and the needs of those around me. Strip away the apathy that sometimes lingers in my heart and replace it with a burning passion to help those in need.
In my journey, may I be bold and unrelenting in my pursuit to uplift those who are struggling. Let my eyes be open to the needs of the hungry and the hurting. Help me to recognize that every act of kindness and every gesture of support can make a monumental difference in someone’s life. Lord, remind me that You have provided abundantly for me so that I may share with others.
As I give to the poor, strengthen my faith in Your promise that I shall not lack. May my heart be filled with joy as I recognize that generosity begets generosity. Let me understand that true wealth lies not in the abundance of possessions but in the richness of my spirit and the love I extend to others. Help me to trust in Your provision so that I may freely give without fear of scarcity.
Lord, I pray for the less fortunate, those who are struggling to make ends meet, who face daily hardships that often go unnoticed. May Your comfort be upon them, and may Your provision come in various forms. Use me, O God, as Your instrument to bring hope to the hopeless and relief to those in distress. When I encounter someone in need, remind me that I am encountering You.
Let my giving be motivated by genuine compassion, not by a desire for recognition or praise. Teach me to give in secret, knowing that You see all, and my reward comes from You alone. Let the love of Christ flow through me in every action I take to serve those in need.
And Lord, I also ask for the grace to resist the temptation to hide my eyes from those who need assistance. Strengthen my resolve to engage with the world around me compassionately. Help me to recognize that every opportunity to help is also an opportunity to reflect Your glory and character in this world.
May Your Holy Spirit stir in me a spirit of generosity, as I strive to follow the example set by our Lord Jesus Christ, who multiplied loaves and fishes, who welcomed the least among us, and who always had compassion on the lost. May my life be a testament to Your love, a beacon of hope in the midst of despair.
I thank You, Lord, for the many blessings You have bestowed upon me. Let them flow through me as I seek to glorify Your name by helping those in need. Help me not to hoard my blessings but rather to share abundantly, confident in Your promise that I shall not lack.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
