A Prayer of Abundance and Gratitude
"Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:" - Proverbs 3:9

O Gracious and Almighty God,
We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and reverence, acknowledging Your sovereignty over our lives and all that we possess. Your Word teaches us in Proverbs 3:9, "Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase." Lord, we seek to honor You as our Creator and Sustainer, recognizing that all good things flow from Your abundant hand.
In this moment, we pause to reflect on the blessings You have bestowed upon us—our family, friends, health, and the means by which we are able to sustain our lives. Help us to remember that every success, every increase in our lives, is a direct result of Your grace and provision. May we never forget that our talents, skills, and opportunities are gifts from You, and with each of these gifts, comes a call to honor You with our substance.
Lord, teach us what it means to honor You with our substance. It is so easy to become consumed by our own desires and ambitions, but we desire to live with You at the center of our lives. Help us to understand that honoring You is not just about our financial blessings but encompasses all that we are and all that we possess. May we learn to steward our resources wisely, recognizing that they are not ours to hoard but Yours to share.
As we consider our resources, we pray for discernment in how we allocate our time, talents, and treasures. Let us not hold back from giving our best to You, for You deserve our firstfruits—the very best of what we have. May we eagerly look for ways to bless others in Your name, contributing not only to the church and community but also reaching out to those in need.
Father, we ask that You instill in our hearts a spirit of generosity. It is often said that a cheerful giver is a reflection of a heart filled with love. We pray for the kind of heart that delights in giving—one that finds joy in serving others and honoring You through our actions. Remind us, Lord, that giving is not a burden but a blessing, an opportunity to reflect Your character and to further Your Kingdom on earth.
In moments when we may doubt, remind us of the promise in Your Word that states, "He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully" (2 Corinthians 9:6). Teach us to trust in Your faithfulness and provision. May we have the confidence to give generously, believing that as we honor You with our substance, You will provide for our needs in ways we could never anticipate.
Help us to cultivate a spirit of worship in our giving. May every act of generosity be an extension of our love for You, a tangible expression of our dedication to serve You and fulfill Your purposes. We want all that we do to be an act of worship—a fragrant offer in Your sight.
Lord, as we honor You with our firstfruits, shower us with wisdom and understanding in the management of our finances. Guard our hearts against greed, fear, and the overwhelming pressures of this world. Help us to look to You in times of uncertainty, trusting that You are our provider and will supply all our needs according to Your riches in glory.
We thank You for the privilege of giving and for the joy that it brings to our hearts. We commit this day, and every day, to honoring You with our substance, in faith that You will multiply it for Your glory.
In the name of Jesus, our Redeemer and Friend, we pray. Amen.
