A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
"There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid. Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness." - Proverbs 30:18-20

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You, I am reminded of the profound words in Proverbs 30:18-20: "There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid." Lord, these words speak to me in a deep way, for they reveal the mysteries of life that are often beyond human understanding. I seek Your wisdom today, Father, to comprehend these wonders and to navigate the complexities of my own life.
First, I marvel at the way of the eagle in the air—the majesty and grace with which it soars above the earth. Father, let my spirit rise like the eagle into Your presence. Teach me to rise above my circumstances and the trials that weigh heavily upon my heart. Help me to see the vastness of Your creation and to find my strength in You. Give me the wings of faith to ascend above the struggles and to trust in Your divine guidance. Just as the eagle trusts in the thermals to lift it higher, help me to trust in Your Spirit to elevate me above my challenges.
Secondly, I contemplate the way of the serpent upon a rock. Lord, serpents move with stealth and cleverness. Let me learn from this and be wise in my dealings with others. Help me to remain vigilant and discerning, to understand the nature of those around me, and to be aware of the potential dangers that lurk in the shadows. May I approach life with the cunning of the serpent, but with a heart and spirit that are pure and holy, relying on Your wisdom to steer me away from the snares of deceit.
Then, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea speaks to me of the journey of life. Ships are subjects to storms, currents, and treacherous waters. Guide me, O Lord, as I navigate my course through turbulent times. Help me to stay anchored in Your Word and to seek calm in the midst of chaos. Just as a vessel requires a skilled captain, I acknowledge You as my Captain, guiding me safely to my destination. Grant me resilience, Lord, that I may weather the storms and maintain my faith. When the tempests come, remind me to trust in Your power to calm the waves and bring peace.
Finally, I consider the way of a man with a maid. This relationship, Lord, is sacred and beautiful, yet it is also fraught with temptation and challenges. I pray that You would bless the relationships in my life. Help me to engage in them with integrity, love, and respect. May I honor those around me and approach all connections with a heart that seeks Your will. I ask for Your protection over my heart and the hearts of those I care for, shielding us from seduction and betrayal. Let me not be like the adulterous woman who "eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness." Help me to be honest, pure, and faithful in all my interactions.
Lord, grant me understanding as I reflect on these profound truths. Teach me to appreciate the beauty and complexity of life and to recognize the ethical weight of my choices. May I seek wisdom and discernment in every step I take. I yearn to align my actions with Your purpose and to be a vessel of Your love in this world. In the name of Jesus, I pray for Your guidance throughout my life's journey. Amen.
