A Lament for Those Who Stray from Your Law
"Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law." - Psalms 119:136

O Sovereign Lord,
As I come before You in humble supplication, my heart is heavy with the weight of the world and the sorrow that fills my soul. I echo the words of Your servant in Psalm 119:136, where it is written, "Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law." Lord, I weep for the state of the hearts of men; I weep for the lost souls who wander aimlessly, far from the sacred truth of Your Word.
I am reminded, Father, that Your law is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Yet, even knowing this, how often do we choose to walk in darkness? How often do we forsake your commandments for the fleeting pleasures of this world? I lift my voice to You, beseeching You to open our eyes to the beauty and wisdom of Your ways, that we might not stray from the path that leads to righteousness.
Lord, my tears flow as I witness the devastation that comes when Your statutes are ignored. I see the hearts of those around me growing cold and callous, where love is replaced by apathy, and compassion yields to selfishness. My spirit is grieved as I see families torn apart, friendships shattered, and communities crumbling, all because we have dismissed Your divine guidance in our lives.
I lament for my own failures, for my own moments of rebellion against Your holiness. How can I stand in judgment of others when I too have walked in ways contrary to Your will? Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have chosen to follow my own desires over Your commandments. Cleanse me of my sins, and renew a right spirit within me. Help me to align my heart with Your heart, to long for Your law as a deer longs for water in a dry and weary land (Psalm 42:1).
As I reflect on this verse, I also pray for those who do not know You. I pray for those who wander without purpose or direction, lost in their own understanding or misplaced confidence. Lord, send forth the light of Your truth into the lives of those who are steeped in darkness. May they encounter the beauty of Your law, the grace of Your mercy, and the hope that comes through Jesus Christ.
Father, I ask that You raise up messengers in our communities—preachers, evangelists, and everyday believers who embody Your Word; who live in accordance with Your precepts and who share the joy of obedience with a world craving authenticity. Let their lives be a testament to Your goodness, revealing that in keeping Your commandments, there is life, freedom, and joy unspeakable.
While my heart aches for those who keep not Your law, I also seek comfort for my own spirit, Lord. Remind me that my tears are not in vain, but a reflection of my deep love for You and for humanity. Help me to channel my sorrow into action, inspiring me to reach out, to speak truth in love, and to show compassion to those who are lost. May my eyes be a fountain of grace, ever willing to cry for the broken and to advocate for the truth.
In my tears, Lord, I trust that You are at work. I know that You can turn mourning into joy, and You can restore what has been broken. Help me to have faith that Your Word will not return void, but will accomplish its purpose (Isaiah 55:11). Teach me to pray for those who do not keep Your law, instead of judging them, and use me as a vessel to bring honor to Your name.
Finally, let my sorrow be mingled with hope, knowing that even in the darkest of days, Your light shines brighter. For Yours is the promise of redemption; Yours is the authority over hearts and nations. I lay my request before You with an assurance of Your faithfulness, praying that Your law would be revered, respected, and cherished in every heart.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
